i have just recieved a letter to say
" for the alleged offence of speed 39mph exceed 30mph on a restricted road camera."

" this allegation is supported by photographic and or video evidence"

have the police caught me or will it be standard camera. There was only me in the car. Can i ask for calibration of camera or proof of the picture. i dont want to tell lies i would just like to know if there is a way of challenging the system. Do i need to send the letter back to say i am the driver and then ask to challenge. I have got 28 days to reply

also i cant find anywhere the camera in question. I have looked on this link

http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/database/EML/index.html

and there is no mention of "Beaumont leys lane leicester" which is where i have been caught.

Thanks

Louise

Its probably a camera where they are out only at specific times. In our area sometimes in the weekend paper it says where there will be speed cameras this weekend - maybe it will have been one of those?!

Doing a google I see that there is a Beaumont Leys Lane in Leicester - would you have been on this road at this time?

If you were speeding - and the wording of your post seems to indicate this - why not pay up? Many of us have learned not to speed the hard way - by being caught and fined and the lesson sure sticks in the memory!
If you weren't speeding then challenge them.

i will pay if i have to. However if the camera is hidden or is not normally there then surely i have to rights to this information. i am not disputing the speed i was travelling just that i had no idea of being flashed. i am sorry some people have to learn the hard way but i am sure that most people even if they have been done before slip over the limit from time to time.

Usually there is a margin of error allowed before a decision to send a Notice of Intended Prosecution is taken. I believe it used to be 10% plus 2mph (i.e. in a 30 mph zone, you would have to be clocked at at least 35 before acgtion being taken)

Yes, I agree that probably most people 'slip over the limit from time to time' but that's not an excuse you can rely on. If you were speeding, pay up and move on - I did!

I dont think that you can get done at doing 31 or 32 in a 30 but anything else over 30 you can.

A couple of years ago I got caught doing 37 in a 30 and accepted it and paid the fine.

Why are you wanting to challenge the fine? Were you not driving? Do you not think you were doing that?

i am getting fed up now.
i would have been happy to have been flashed and thought ive been caught. I never saw anything. I have asked for advice as to how can you find out where cameras are. i will pay the fine andd have the points. I just thought people might throw some advice here and not just say " I told you so" Sorry for expecting anything else.

Not quite. The thread is titled "..what are my options" and a number of people have suggested that you dont really have any other than to pay the fine and hopefully be a bit more careful in the future.
You've admitted what some people regard as a serious crime here so have to expect a bit of criticism at least
    Can I help?
