I wasn't sent a password to let me log in. Will they send this separately, or will I have to telephone them do you think? I applied over the telephone -- I think people who applied online chose their password when they made their application.

I may be forgetting this, but I did the application online and I do not believe that I got a password during the process. You're asked at first whether you have a password, but I don't think I was ever given the opportunity to set it.

I found this (doesn't help me though)

If you open your Direct ISA by phone, we’ll send you a secure, temporary password to get you started, which you’ll need to change to one of your choice. Your temporary password expires after 60 days, so please make sure you change it before then.

The problem that I've got is what is my N S and I number, which is the first thing the log in asks for. Back to the drawing board, I think

If you received a letter from them advising the account is open plus account details - opening balance etc., look at the top left of the page where your NS&I number should be printed - mine's an 11 digit number.

Not a very encouraging start. After trying to log in to the account for the first time I get a message saying: "Invalid Login ID. Try Again.".

Gave them a call (8 minutes, with lots of irritating pre-recorded preamble about ISA and Inland Revenue regulations which I didn't need to know) it appears that their system is currently broken.

I got my password in the post today. And have the same "Invalid Login ID" as you, Stompa. So frustrating ... I will have another go on Monday.

Hmmm, still not working 24 hours later. Even if they haven't fixed it yet you'd think that they would have arranged by now for a more informative message to be displayed.

I've just tried and can login without any problems so it is working.

When you put in your NS&I number, just put in the 11 digit number and don't leave any spaces.

    Hope this helps

Thanks, I'd already tried both with and without spaces without success.

The lady I spoke to at NS&I actually read me an email she'd just received about the problem, and IIRC it talked about "some customers experiencing difficulty when logging in" - so I guess you're just lucky not to be one of those affected.

    Doesn't work for me.

I just telephoned them and was told that "no one" can log in at the moment, and they were "looking into it". I think this means we need to wait until someone with more technical knowledge than the call centre staff can have a look at it. So next week maybe ...
