:jSave yourself some money and buy a permenant laundry marker pen. Just write on the label of the clothes.
Cheaper, and the one I bought from Mothercare 7 years ago is still going strong after marking EVERYTHING for my three little ones!!

Please don 't just do this - I'm a primary school teacher, and the only names you can read on my darlings' jumpers are the sew or ironed on tags - all of those who just used permanent marker have long faded to nothing, leading to lost items and angry parents.
Do not feed the trolls please.

I sew them in too! I buy them 5 sets of uniform each for the year (so much easier and less hassle when I just have to wash them all at the weekend!) I buy them now when M&S is doing 3 for 2 on everything and then just do a few bits a night, by the end of July everything is done.

It has saved me a small fortune over the years because all of their stuff DOES come back.

I like the able lables essential packs - dishwasher proof labels, shoe labels, sew in and iron on ones all included. And if you buy this pack and look in the special offers section of the website you will also get 500 free name and address lables for yourself. :T

As someone who works in a school I am just really glad there are people out there who know how to put names in clothes! Thank you all.

Have got to agree with you on that one, i work in a school also and the number of unnamed items we have is shameful.
I have even been known to write a childs name on the label once a lost item turns up.
I have always wrote my dd's names on the labels rather than use iron on or sew in.

i agree i have only ever used sew in labels and so far we haven't lost any item of school clothing, a few mums did buy the marker pens but noticed that as the kids were hanging their tops up with the label all the labels fell out and they lost their jumpers!! and at over £8 a logo top it wasn't worth the hassle in the end.

Sorry but I'm going to ask a stupid question! I had sewn in ones when I was little and assumed that's what I'd get but having come across this I'm intrigued by the iron on type. Where's the best place to iron them onto. My son's just in nursery so he's in jeans tshirts joggers and hoodies, would they stick to jersey material or do you put them on the existing label? Sorry, I warned you it was a silly question!

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. I ordered the woven sew in ones from ebay to start. I ordered the school colour (red), chose the most bold and clear font and had a cat motif next to the name. I am very impressed! I've ordered the uniform in M&S 3 for 2, have a bottle of wine in the fridge ready to start the sewing! Now will look into shoe labels and lunchbox ones. Thanks everyone!
