Daughter starts school in sept. I need name labels for clothes - which ones?

Hello, I need pointing in the right direction to buy name labels for uniform etc. Where does everyone buy them from?

Are iron on better than ones you sew in?

Any help/info is very much welcome. Thank you! :A

I prefer the iron-in ones - but then I dont like sewing.

One other tip - if you have more than one child just get your surname printed on them, you always get loads of labels so you can also use them when younger child starts school/nursery. (obviously not such a good idea if your surname is smith/jones etc!;))

I prefer the sew in ones, and just use a permanent marker for the cheaper things like vests and shirts.

Sew it in where it will be seen by a Mum ironing - the inside label might seem like a good idea, but we've had a few cardis go missing for a while, only for them to mysteriously re-appear in the lost and found after someone eventually spotted they had an extra cardi and checked the inner label - so now it's always put somewhere visible.;)

Thank you so much, I never knew there was so much to learn about it! It is funny because I wondered about the surname thing too. Are there any cheap online places to get them?

My mum used the printer iron on paper for ours.
Just needed an A4 page printed with about our names repeated.
If you use Excel, you can do it as a grid about four across and twenty down.
Just make sure to mirror the text before you print.

This stuff, though I'm sure you can find a better deal:

One page will do lots of labels, so you could split a box between a few friends.

I always had woven sew in name tapes in my uniform and my old gloves still have them in 20 years later! i am lazy so bought iron in labels or my oldest daughter and they were useless. I have since discovered stick in labels which are brilliant and even quicker than the iron in ones. have lasted well so far.

    We never had a problem.
The trick with iron on things is to leave enough sticky transfer stuff around the ink to protect it, basically an edge of a few mm. They were ironed onto the labels or the hems and I remember them still being there ages later.

I have just been looking around on the net and I think ebay is coming up quite cheap. Even for the traditional woven ones to be sewn in. I like the idea of these as they can be used as a hanging loop for on her peg.

I might get a mixture! Thanks everyone, i love all the ideas!
