If you can see yourself in this financial position for some time in the future it might be an idea to sell the car and use public transport until you can afford to run one again. If you aren't paying insurance, fuel and general upkeep for the car then you will make a big saving to your finances. Unless you need the car for work, but you are claiming JSA.0

Not half as heart wrenching a solution as walking 12 miles to pawn her jewellery though, is it?0 -

It is up to you if you use this site, but please don't accuse us all of judging you, when most of us tried to make useful suggestions to you.mummyfleming wrote: »you will all be happy to know i just walked 12 miles so i could pawn the jewellery I was bought for my 21st. i will do anything to provide for my daughter and husband. This is just the type of "heart strings" comment that makes MSE sometimes a crap place to be.
So a few weeks ago the OP was going to spend £130 for a weekend away.
Presumably she was going to also spend (a little?) more on actually doing things while she was away, like eating, drinking and travelling.
Then, something happens, god knows what, that changes the circumstances FROM :
"I want the best deal on a £130 holiday"
TO
"I can't afford to have my car fixed, can I get a crisis loan?"
Its reasonable to challenge her on that. The DSS would.
So perhaps I am a bad person for not feeling sorry for her.
But I just don't, sorry.
Crisis loans are for those in dire trouble. Not for people who could afford a holiday a few weeks prior.
I don't feel bad for pointing it out, nor challenging her.
Walk 12 miles. Please.

I quite agree - utter drivel! Cringe worthy in fact and I have no sympathy for them either.
Apart from anything else, brake pads and shoes do not suddenly render a car unsafe to drive!
If they prioritised and had their car serviced once in a while, this would not be a 'crisis' now. And someone who is looking at holidays is not unable to afford a service for their car.0
