O2: How much different between standard and premium/ what is LLU?

I am thinking to leave Virgin media because they will increase the price to normal price after my contract ends (I got special offer in the past 12 months with 2 Mb SPEED). I have O2 mobile contract so I am considering to move to O2 Broadband. Many people in this forum have said so far that O2 is the best for broadband right now, is it true?

Can anyone tell me how much different between standard and premium account?
For standard, it's £7.34 with up to 8Mb download speed
Premium, £9.79 per month with up to 20Mb download speed

Are those speed much different? or 8meg is already enough for basis use?

Also, many people have mentioned "LLU". what is it stand for?

Please suggest me which provider should I go for. if O2 is best for me/ standard or premium account would you recommend?

you need to go to samknows.com and check you tel exchange just put in your tel no and then a list if isp will be listed llu means o2 use there equipment in the exchange and is cheaper so if you have this in your list go with llu 02 broadband this will be the premium up to 20gb but if you have no o2 llu you have to go onto o2 access like me just over £17.00 a month

The speed you get through adsl depends on the distance from the exchange if the speed estimate on the o2 websites estimates more than 8meg go for premium, if less than 8 meg or around that go for standard

LLU means O2 equipment is installed in the local exchange - this is the cheaper and better option
Access - this means no LLU equipment so it goes through BT Openworld - more expensive and not as good

Here is mine one

Actually I just live in the city center so there should have LLU

So O2 is the good one to go for, right?

Also how can I check the estimation from O2 website. I went on the website and input my postcode to check. O2 just said that "Hurray! O2 Broadband is available in your area" without the estimation.

So which one should I go for 8meg or 20 meg. Are their speed really big different?

Worth having a browse through my document all about o2/Be ADSL. Remember to blag Quidco £50 & free PAYG dongle if you are thinking of signing up!

If you were content with 2Mbps from Virgin you'll be more than pleased with UPTO 8Mbps with o2 Standard THOUGH it will all depend how long/good your phoneline is - their estimator will tell you what to expect based on a BT database (that may be inaccurate).

If you don't yet have a BT phonenumber then then you can try the Samknows map to see what it estimates for your location

If you do choose the "wrong one" ie go Standard thinking you'd only get UPTO 8Mbps but your line DOES support more then you can upgrade immediately with o2 (and vice versa).

Start with the up to 8MB Standard service. If you want more speed and your line can support it, then upgrade whenever you like.
But for what you describe as' basic' use, up to 8MB should be fine.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I have no BT landline and I will not have it. I only use my mobile phone. I have inputed my address into the link you provided, the result is
green.gif ADSL available at ~6Mbps
BT Total broadband
TalkTalk LLU (8M is free)
Sky LLU (2M is free, 8M is £5pm)
AOL broadband (non-LLU)
Pipex broadband
Plusnet broadband
Tiscali broadband
Tiscali TV
And many more...
green.gif ADSL2+ available at ~8.5Mbps
Be Unlimited
O2 broadband
UK Online (incl 20M packages)
Sky Max (LLU) (16M for £10pcm)
red.gif Cable services not available

So I can go for the standard one only. However I think "up to 8 meg" is already enough for me.

Quidco will give a dongle as well. What is it for?

You have no chance of getting ANY broadband without the BT line!

Oh my god, I just realize that there is no cable services for my address. I have been only with Virgin media so I did not need the phone line.

So what I can do now is to get bt landline and then get for O2 Broadband, right?

What if I go for Sky and add broadband with the package (of course I need to add phone line too). So I do not need BT land line, right?

I am not sure now what I should get... Please suggest. I want a cheapest one.

I recently got a BT line & o2 broadband and it seemed the best choice for me.

You may still be able to get a free connection to BT by saying you want this deal to them, which ties you to an 18month contract with some minimum call requirements.

You can then get o2 broadband, you can get good cash back through some sites and 4months free through other sites.

o2 broadband will certainly be better than Sky, but it depends on how much of a techie you are in weather you'll notice! Just depends on if you were getting sky anyway, so if you were you might get a good deal that way.
