moving to fife ??

Hi,
If your looking for somewhere quieter than Kirkcaldy/Glenrothes you might take a look at Cupar or nearby, although the house prices here have gone up a bit in the last year or two. It's got bus links, and regular direct trains to Dundee and Edinburgh. I've lived here for eight years and have three children who all love it here. Some good mother+toddler groups and a slower pace of life! For a smaller town though you don't get a cinema, but there is a sports centre and community centre, and some council offices. Apart from the cinema, the amenities aren't bad (for a town its size). Swimming pool, two primary schools (one R.C.), a high school, pretty good selection of shops, train station, 5 churches (if you're even only slightly that way inclined, go along for the social aspect!!), a few pubs, five or six takeaways and three chippies (two with pizza), some nice well-kept parks, a middle-sized Tesco (between Metro and Extra) which is planning to expand.
Most of the estate agents in N E Fife are listed on
http://www.home.co.uk/cgi-bin/agentsearch.pl?area=fife&town=Cupar
but it doesn't mention Remaxx who are there too.
Good luck!

Cupar is ok (I was brought up nearby and went to school there) but it is more expensive than Glenrothes with fewer amenities. (I remember when it had a cinema and five chippies but only one takeaway.
There were originally two cinemas ...)
There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

Agree Glenrothes would be a good choice and as already mentioned, most of the town is no longer a concrete jungle as the planting and landscaping carried out by the "Corporation" back in the 60's has now fully matured making the town very "green".
Here is another good proerty link for houses in this area, it includes all the Your Move houses too so saves having to trawl through lots of sites.

Any advice on areas to avoid, or that are up and coming (esp for those with a baby/small child would be gratefully received !!
Thanks
Now i will get shot for saying this but here goes !
ARGGHHH WHY ARE YOU COMING UP HERE FROM YORKSHIRE ARE YOU MAD !
FIFE in my opinion is still living in the 19th century , places like Glenrothes / Kirkcaldy are dumps poor facilities in both .
WHY THE HELL ARE YOU COMING HERE !
Im soon moving down to Yorkshire , Leeds Wakefield area ( wife from Leeds )
and after visiting their over the last few days I CANNOT WAIT TO GET OVER THE BORDER ! At least Leeds etc are modern cities .
Yes people will have a pop at this opinion of Fife ...hey its a free country but in my opinion thats what it is , a COUNTY LACKING IN ANY NEW FACILITIES for children what so ever (i have a 6 month old ) and to be honest long term i think the young uns when they grow up here will send be off away , nothing here will hold them . So to sum it up , id say think twice , keep ya brass in yer pocket and dont bloody come here !
Waits for the flack ....im big enough to take it bring it on !0 -

Hi i have to say that i disagree re the transport system is quite good ?
I live on the no7 Leven bus route to Dunfermline and its a joke ! 2 buses an hour manned by staff who couldnt gave a damn ! I have had more run in with Stagecoach since i have been here re getting on a low floor bus when they put a ram shackled old style one on now and again that cant get a pram on , dont make me laugh !
Sorry again i wont dress Fife up to be something that it isnt ....it needs dragging in to the 21st century screaming quickly , otherwise there is no hope for the county .... Marks out of 10 for transport / investment / facilities / employment etc ONE and that just scrapes in at ONE ...... many things i say re this part of Scotland is damming but damned true .... face fact Fifers you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think other wise ....0 -

Prudent wrote:I used to live and work in fife and agree that Glenrothes probaly offers you the best value in cost versus amenities. There rae some great ex council buys. I don't know what you would get for your money now, but it is a good place to get on the property ladder.

Hi
I didnt actually come up here to get away from it all ... my children live in Inverness and we chose to come to Kirkcaldy ( we didnt do my homework which is very unusual of us ) to settle without checking out what the town held for us employment wise .
Again i pull no punches re the county , i cannot understand how people who are from here fail to see that Fife needs major investment on all sides ?0
