Chequeback claim lost by Royal Mail

Hi folks, looking for some advice.

I submitted a claim for a chequeback offer from e2save for £29. It was sent by recorded delivery on 7 March. I have been checking Royal Mail's website for delivery confirmation, but it keeps saying check back later. So I phoned Royal Mail and they said it would now be classed as lost. They will only refund me the cost of postage, but won't compensate me for the £29 claim, so now I'm out of pocket due to them losing the claim. How can I take this further, surely Royal Mail should be liable for my loss of £29?

hmmm....the thing is that the royal mail website for tracking has not been working for a long long time...so they don't even know themselves what is happening with their delivery...

i sent 3 cashback claims last month, royalmail said none were delivered, but they were received by the companies to which i sent (thankfully, they were honest)...

i sent to Onestopphoneshop and CPW...so my advice for u would be to call ur company ,and tell them u have sent, and whether they received ?

  • I had a similar experience with Royalmail when they couldn't confirm whether my claim was delivered or not, so I called up e2save, explained the situation and they accepted a claim by fax.

It was 4 days till the expiry of the claim period so i was sweating a bit as the chequeback was worth £97.

Yes it does, but the value of the contents was actually only the value of the paper the claim was printed on (nil). This is the same for such things as share certificates and gift vouchers.
The cashback should have been sent with consequential loss insurance as well, this covers more than just the contents value and includes items that are woth nothing but would cause financial loss to the sender if the package is lost or delayed.
  • Oddly enough, my cheque actually arrived today from e2save.

Thanks cabane77 - seems like there's not much point to recorded delivery if they can't even track a letter which obviously was delivered and signed for!

Get back on to the Royal Mail, they should send you a tenner for the delay, or at least a book of 12 1st class stamps

Dont use recorded!!! My DH is an ex postie and yes recorded is tracked once its signed for but can go anywhere before it gets signed for! If that makes sense! I ordered a top from eBay, recorded post, im still waiting for it to arrive nearly a month later so can safely say its lost too!

Use special delivery then its guarenteed to get to its destination. More expensive but worth it for peace of mind for important things. I sent one to my bank as i wanted to know that they would def get it so they wouldnt be able to fob me by saying it never arrived.

He has got the cash back the letter arrived most probably with a sig, yes there website is not very good at the moment but why say clam for compensation. Because of this attitude clam for anything and everything the cost of every thing just have to keep going up to cover what they pay in compensation, so everyone suffers because of a few. It all work out in the end for him he did not lose anything just be happy.

If you think are post is rubbish now you wait and see what will happen to it when it goes

    Just my 2p

Why should he not claim some for of compensation? He payed for a service he did not receive, i.e. recorded delivery. Therefore there is nothing wrong with claiming that money back at all.
