30-point gas boiler servicing £49.99

npower hometeam are currently offering a 30-point gas boiler service at £49.99 instead of their usual £72.99 (filling in Summer slackness, no doubt). I used them last year and found them thorough and efficient. You'll have to pay in advance, but the discount makes that worthwhile. Book online if you want the work done withing one month, otherwise ring (a quirk, apparently). Go to:

I rang today and girl could only offer one appointment which wasn't suitable despite receiving offer letter only today. Must just be selling a few slots to fill up in certain areas. Seems a bit of a waste of time advertising it.

    Terms and Conditions
    * £49.99 price is only available for services booked and completed before 30th September 2009. The offer is strictly limited and subject to availability and can be withdrawn at any time.

** Standard price is £72.50. npower energy customer price £67.50.

As we give priority to repairs your service appointment may be subject to change. This might mean that we have to visit you on another day.

Additional charges may be payable if your boiler service requires the purchase of mandatory manufacturers service parts and geographical restrictions apply.
Somehow I think it's the final term that they are banking on.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)

does a "service" involve anything more than tests

Obviously it depends on who is doing it.

A few bits should be included if they are required, like case seals etc.....

Most modern boilers you hardly do much with other than seeing if it is set up right, with an old boiler you are looking to find some problems;)

Good morning: an annual service should follow the specification detailed by the boiler manufacturer in the installation/servicing manual usually available online for late model boilers on respective manufacturer websites.

  • had to decide between npower ( not great reviews ) or British Gas who were slightly cheaper by £10

So I phone up BG and after waiting for a while I got through to 'mr grumpy' ( sounds like he's just been dumped! ). I ask him details on the £59 offer and hes not really answering but takes my details. Then asks for a credit card number. AHEM what about telling me a date that it might happen first? Finally gives me a date that is no use and no alternative offered.

I thank him greatly and tell him I'll ask npower instead. Or perhaps he could come round and stick his head in my unlit gas oven to check :o.

In the words of james may ..... C*CK!

    Why are things never easy?

    Hello,

I have literally just had the NPower Annual Service done on my 3 year old Vaillant combi-boiler. It is the second time I have used them and am very impressed. I paid £49.99 and booked it all online.

The engineer rang to tell me what time he would arrive, and was bang-on. He was here for about 45 minutes and carried out a series of tests, cleaned the condensor pipe etc.

He gave me a print out with boiler efficiency, carbon monoxide tests etc etc.

Very impressed and will use again next time.
