alot of things its just not safe my partner is still driving it and its broken down on him 3 times this mornin on his way back from work! we are so stuck though cos he needs it for his job!0

Is he employed, does it say in his contract of employment that he must provide his own car, what is the nature of the work? How are they recompensing him for use of his car?0

!!!!!!!!
Is he a taxi driver
Why does he not get the car fixed?
Why have your bank refused a loan?
You can get a perfectly good car for a few hundred pounds. If you can't afford that out of his earnings you shouldn't be getting into debt.
Can you afford the insurance? Do you have insurance?
I think you need to discuss things with your partner.0 -

I'd say that would be a good idea, good luck with it!0 -
well if he needs to get to different places all over for business use, then a company car has to be provided.

Nothing *has* to be provided (as you put it) - not even covering mileage - but you can claim the mileage back from the taxman if you're travelling for business.

It does sound a bit weird.
If the job really does require a car, and it is not part of his agreement that he provides it, then I think a dismissal could be unfair and capable of challenge. If he is self-employed in some way, then of course it's a different story.
Seems a compromise is what's needed. Since it seems both sides stand to lose if he doesn't get the car, can the firm buy it for him and deduct from wages over the coming months? Or can the firm own it and rent it back to him for his private usage?
There must surely be a deal in it somewhere......0
