Give Ebay time and they'll get around to enforcing "FREE" P &P here too.
I completely agree and I think they will almost be forced into it. Sellers will try and list in the wrong categories to get round this and rather than act on every single report about a miscategorised item I think they will just roll out the P and P across all the clothing sections.
Browsing last night there are hundreds of accessories being sold in the clothes section.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What I find quite funny is everybody on the ebay boards complaining that they cant list for free at 99p anymoree on. There because they have to put there postage on. The Free listings at 99p have only been in place since March! Did no one make a profit before then?!!
The good sellers will adapt (both private and business) and it really wont effect them majorly. At least when they put free P&P on all catogories it will make everyone know exactly how they must list for postage. So it will make it easier and the buyers will then be used to an inclusive price also.0 -

The difference is that before, you paid a listing fee, but felt confident that your item would sell. Now, once you have added the postage price into your start price, there is far less chance of your item even leaving the runway much less reaching a decent price. People tend to look for the lowest starting price to bid.No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!
Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target

I don't think buyers are generally daft enough not to understand that they need to pay a combined price for an item. A 99p item with £2 postage is exactly the same from a buyers point of view as a £2.99 item.
That's the one thing i can't understand about this, the amount of sellers saying that their item is only worth 99p and who on earth is going to pay £3 for an old PS2 game (or whatever). How did they manage to sell before at 99p and not add on any p and p then

There are two things at least that you've failed to understand:
1. A low starting price entices buyers in. If it starts with a P&P inc price it's less attractive.
2. An inclusive P&P price allows Ebay to make money in P&P inclusive charges. A few pence difference on a low value item means "Why should I bother to list it" to me the seller.
There are other issues - including offering a P&P choice.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -
I have about 200 listings on 99p starts, with auto re-list option.
Is there a way of bulk amending the dispatch field or do I have to wait for them all to fail the re-list and manually change ?0 -

It's not that people can't do the maths - it's just psychology. If the item price is 99p, people kid themselves that they're getting something for under a quid. They don't see the postage cost as integral to the price of the item. But if you make it part of the face value, people will ask themselves 'do I really think this thing is worth £3 or £5 or whatever it comes to.
The same reason why shops price things at 3.99 or 4.99 rather than £4 or £5. It's not that people are too stupid to realise that the difference is only a penny - it's that these sort of purchasing decisions depend more on feeling and subconscious reactions that, for example, perceive the difference between £3.99 and £4.00 as being greater than the penny's worth that it really is.For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -
When I was young :j we were always told the prices ended in 99p so that the till had to be rung up and opened for a 1p change rather than just the notes taken and possibly pocketed by staff.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Of course, there could be more than one reason .... but the main one is the psychology. Look at all the big online shops like Amazon and Play.com - they all price at £x.99, and that certainly isn't to do with tills! For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0

I agree that £3.99 could seem to be better than £4. However all the big stores do of course now sell in round figures. M and S , Primark, Matalan Littlewoods etc.The increase in non cash payments has made the use of opening the tills as an excuse redundant.
However I still can't really see why people say that there item isn't worth £3.99 for instance and they can't sell it anymore , I wonder how on earth they were getting £3.99 for it before then?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
