I disagree there still not asking sellers to absorb the costs. Yes buyers may pay a little more. But I doubt it as peoples postage will become more realistic as they include it in the price. Any business model should include your fees anyway. Completely agree - but not everyone who is a seller has their business cap on and are usually just after making a little bit of side cash whilst getting rid of a few bits and bobs they no longer need. Thats what i mean by the private occasional sellers that are going to be affected. These are the ones most of us pick up our bargains from. To be honest i very very rarely by from a business seller on ebay.

A lot of people are just using this as an excuse for there own poor business practices instead of looking at what they do I understand where you are coming from as it really gets my goat when people charge ludicrous amounts for p&p but what about those of us who do only charge the basic small amount for P&P who will be affected by losing appeal through the loss of 99p start prices and thus higher fees.

As a byline though if P&P is technically free surely the DSR for P&P costs should automatically be 5 stars I hope so, makes sense but little on ebay makes sense these days.

Just a few of my own views above ;)

ok then, we will just have to agree to disagree, perhaps ebay are making a genius move that will improve the buying and selling experience, the proof will be in pudding.

lets see if they can finally take the lead boots off their shares with this next bout of changes. I doubt it, maybe they should just ask amazon what they think they should do, you never know, they might be in a charitable mood and offer some advice.

As somebody who sells on ebay now and again, when i'm having a declutter, i'm really unhappy about this. I know not every catergory is included in this now but if Soolin is right, they will be at some point.

I start everything at 99p, like others have said, it brings people in and also if the item doesn't sell then I am not out of pocket. Now i'm going to have to include postage costs, plus the fees i'm going to be charged by ebay to the start price. So there will be less interest in the items and if they don't sell, I am still going to be charged by ebay.

I find it disgusting to be honest. They brought in the free listing for auctions starting at 99p or less and now they have found away to get around this, to get more fees from us. I won't be listing in any of these catergories again and any that are included in this in the future.

  • I couldn't agree more hayley11 - that's exactly how I feel

Ebay is going to end up as a purely buisiness-seller site, which defeats the original point really.

We must also remember that the competition (OK a small player but trying to take a little of the action nonetheless) Tazbar have given up due to the economic climate. Yet ebay carry on ,basically the only competition left now is ebid, and even their usually thriving forums are now virtually dead.

Ebay can afford to lose us small sellers as long as the big ones remain and I still think that is their ultimate aim. Personally I am making hay whilst the sun shines but have already stopped one of my big business selling accounts due to a combination of increased postal costs, higher FVFs (I don't qualify for PS Status) and now Auctiva wanting to charge me. I may come back at some point or I may decide after 10 years that I've had enough of doing ebay every night when I get home from work, who knows.

I've just put a range of printer cartridges and laser cartridges in the bin and they'll go for landfill now rather than being sold for a few pence + P&P on Ebay.

It's just not worth it to list something and then have to absorb up to £3 postage.

What a totally stupid idea to insist on "Free" P&P - of course it isn't free, but the only thing you can be sure of is that instead of failing to sell (at no cost) every item ends up with a fee to Ebay sale or no sale.

Goodbye Ebay. I am neither a seller or a buyer now.

I think it should be changed to reflect P+P quality. After all there is a big difference between someone who packs things properly and someone who chucks things in a envelope. Or they should be scrapped altogether.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

You should have tried freecycle - at least it would have got them off of your hands and somone may have been very grateful or them.

Like many others i'm losing heart in ebay now even though I don't sell very often anymore mainly as I don't have the time.
The kicker for me was a couple of weeks ago I listed a game for 1.50 that had a few watchers but didn't sell (with 1.55 recorded p&p on top), I was going to relist it a few minutes ago and was politely told I now had to set the p&p at a big fat zero. The game was obviously too highly priced at £3.05 in total, so I'd have to absorb the p&p costs - which literally is £1.51 for actual postage costs so just 4p goes towards packaging etc, which I think is highly reasonable to be fair!!

Needless to say i'm not going to bother anymore, this on top of the not so new ratings system is just putting a downer on the fun of ebay (I used to love it cos it felt like playing shop!), I think i'll save my future sales for boot sales unless it's something I know will sell well and really cover my postage and time.

That's all very well if you don't mind dodgy callers to your house. It only takes one bad experience to close down any enthusiasm for freecycle. No thanks, not worth it.

Wasteful or not, it's the bin now for any low value item.
