    Welcome to my world :o

I have a quarry tiled floor in the kitchen and have ants crawling around every year. Must be a nest underneath the floor and despite endless rounds of ant powder, liquid etc .... they survive.

So ... you have to destroy the nest, somehow and the powder/liquid that they take back to the nest is the only way to do this :o

You can hoover them up though :j :rotfl:
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

Try talcum powder, they hate it. We found roughly where they were coming in & sprinkled a line across & they haven't bothered us since.

I had a huge problem with ants in a flat I lived in a few years ago. They would crawl up to the first floor! The best two solutions I found were to sprinkle a line of cinnamon (smells nice too) across their path. It worked like a charm. Then I used the Vac for all of the ones who were already past my defence line.

Check the dog's Kong! I brought mine in from the garden to refill after one of the mutts had carried it out there and left it on the grass overnight, when I put it on the kitchen side tons of ants swarmed out of it, they must have been attracted by the remnants of dog food in it.

The kong is indoor toy only! Otherwise I get mud and slugs everywhere!

I can't work out what is attracting them as they seem to be coming out from under one of my built in cupboards.

I made a mushy paste of bicarb and vinegar and plugged the gap. It has dried hard and I have seen no more ants.

I did remember a tip my granny used to tell me. Apparently if you draw a blue chalk line around your house the ants won't cross it! It seemed to work for her :)

Only problem is that I live in a terrace and the neighbours might think me a bit odd drawing round their houses too!

Completely off topic, but the blue chalk line reminded me of a school lesson once. Apparently, red ink in ballpoint pens smells like an ant pheremone (I'm not sure if it is brand specific of not). If you draw on paper with one, the ants will (roughly) follow your lines. Perhaps the blue chalk smells like a predator?

I get them in the kitchen, the only thing that works for my house is the Ant Bait traps, I have 2 in the kitchen and replace them every couple of months but have to leave them down all year or the ants appear again.

I am another one for the ant trap - ants turn up in my kitchen every year - use the ant trap and after a couple of days they are gone till next year - actually reading this I think I need to put down the ant trap earlier next year!

My kitchen was crawling in them a week ago, I made a thick sugar syrup and then added a tsp of borax and put some blobs on some kitchen paper on the work surface away from pets and left them to eat it, it was soon covered as they loved it.

Apparently this is what's in Nippon, they take it back to the nest and it kills them all. Each day there was less and 3 or 4 days all gone. I also added some peppermint oil to some soapy water and washed the kitchen down with it as they don't like peppermint.

I sprayed some of my cat flea spray where they were coming in and they haven't come back again.
