    I know places like Greggs resell the previous days pasties and sausage rolls the next morning :(

    But on the positive side my local chippys cook the fish to order and you see the potatos getting peeled in the machine into a bucket and then the fresh peeled and cut potatos get fried yummy :)
    However the sauces always look a bit dodgy with nasty skins on the top :rolleyes:
    Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
    Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
    It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
    I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together

    pizza shop i worked at had any unused topping ingredients kept overnight in the (very!) chiller unit.. anything reaching use by date or looking remotely iffy was binned, straight away.

    processed meats were ok, though the chopped peppers and sweetcorn looked a bit mank next day!

    I went out for a family meal a few years ago, the waiters put big dishes on the table and we put what we wanted on our plate. When I asked to take home th leftovers in the bowl, the waiter said no as they re-use it for dinner!

    I couldn't believe it. How do they know that I haven't stuck my fingers or spat in the food?

    I called Trading Standards the next day. Apparently it is pefectly legal to re-heat and re-serve food. They are even allowed to scrape off the leftovers on your plate and use that!!!!

    It's good housekeeping to make leftovers into a new dish, such as the salmon example given above: "salmon was served one night, next night it was salmon mousse and the next night it was fish cakes!" as long as it is well and safely done. I assume that "soup of the day" is constructed from leftovers, as I would do that at home, and again it can be delicious if well done. On the other hand, my sister worked in a pub where buckets of left over chile con carne were left overnight in a warm kitchen and reheated until it was used up. She warned us never to eat anything when we visited her at work.

    YOU CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IS LEGAL EH? THE EATER MAY HAVE HAD A SERIOUS DISEASE, AND THEY CAN SERVE HIS LEFTOVERS TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!

    ALSO, IF YOU HAVE PAID FOR THE FOOD ON THE TABLE THEN SURELY YOU ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE IT HOME?

    That is seriously revolting to re-serve something which has been on people's plates. I would never do this at home let alone from a complete stranger with goodness knows what bugs.

    That's me put off eating out ever again!

    Takeaways round our way used to be so good, but now they are all a load of rubbish! What has happened to the quality of our independent takeaways?

    We have three chippy's within a stones-throw from us, but 2 of them are only open for 2 hours a day, 3 days a week. I once managed to get in there at 6:45 on a Friday (They close at 7), only to be turned away by the angry owner as they had already scrubbed and tidied up.....The third chippy has god awful food served by a miserable, unfriendly battleaxe! What great incentives for your customers to pay another visit(!)

    The local Chinese takeaway has slipped down too: Last time we got a chinese, all of the meals tasted exactly the same...,had stuck together cold rice and super crunchy, 10-times-fried chips.

    How do they expect to continue trading if they knowingly serve up cheap slop!!?!
    Profit=sanity
    Turnover=vanity
    Greed=inhumanity:dance:

    Doesn't suprise me to be honest, sorry to make a sweeping generalisation but Chinese and Indian takeaways usually have appalling hygiene standards. Found this website yesterday:

    http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/

    This pretty much confirms my suspicions (in my area at least). My local chinese takeaway has zero stars and pretty much bottom rating for everything else. My local chippy has 5 stars, so you can guess where I'll be getting more takeaways from.

    Interestingly I'd always thought Dominos overcharge for pizza, but my local Dominos has 5 stars for hygiene and the cheaper independent place has 1 star. So maybe there's a reason they charge more.

    i cant find it now but i read on the web some time ago that someone went to a pub, maybe harvesters and drew a black line on a chip then hid it under some parsley, and about ten minutes after the plates were taken away he saw the witress carrying a plate of chips to another table and he saw that one had a black line drawn on it. :eek:
