Digital TV signal problem

Hope someone can help, just purchased a new telly with built in freeview Samsung LE32B350 model.

Set it all up and now find that it's not picking up some channels like Channel 5,CITV and a few other ones. Some of the other channels has sound but no picture and other channels the picture tends to stick.

I have had no trouble with my old telly with the set top box at all.

Tried to find a review on this telly on the net but haven't had much luck so don't know if it's to do with the telly.

If it is a fault with the telly I presume I can return it to store and get a full refund?

Thanks.

What aerial are you using? Some tuners are less sensitive and some are more, but to get decent digital reception you generally need a roof top aerial, not a loft or indoor one.
Have you tried running the set up again to see if you can get some more channels?

Because the integrated tuner may be less sensitive than the old box. Freeview TV's are designed to work with a proper outdoor aerial. You might get away without one depending on your area and position but usually not.
OP hasn't said what what aerial they are using.

Not sure if I've misread but has the OP actually said they used it without a rooftop aerial (well hopefully they didn't use the washing up powder anyway ;))?

    Thanls for the reply guys,

I have got a roof top aerial and didn't have any probs with the set top box.

Have reset it a few times and still have the same problem.

The analog channels are fine but have probs with quite a few digital channels.

Hi, as macman said, some tuners are less sensitive than others. Generally if you put rubbish in you get rubbish out. Only real test is to ask someone with a KNOWN good roof aerial to let you try it on to confirm the tv is ok . If it works ok on that then sort the aerial.

Agree, the only other solution would be to get a decent signal booster. Some of these can be very effective in my experience.

Otherwise it may be worth returning the TV as it's not fit for purpose if you're in a weak signal area (hopefully that'll change soonish depending on where you live when they boost the digitial transmission signals).

But how come some of the other channels on digital are "clear as a bell"? like bbc news 24,sky news & sky sports news to name a few?

Should I take the telly back? Doesn't help when I can't find any reviews on this telly.

Then the best thing to do is see if you can set it up in at a neighbour's/friend's (with outdoor aerial) and see if the problem goes away. If it does, it's your aerial, if not, then the digital tuner may be faulty.
The reason that you get analogue but not digital is that an analogue tuner is more tolerant of a poor signal. It will work, but with an inferior picture. With digital, it's all or nothing. If the signal is not good enough, you'll get no picture at all.
Don't quite follow why you want to read reviews of it-would have been better to do that before buying it?

Have u still got the set top box, and if so is it possible to by-pass the integral tuner and see if it works with the STB connected?
I had a similar prob with a Sony TV with integral digital tuner (so not cheap rubbish - not that Samsung is either imo).

I would see if you can get a refund as not fit for purpose - it's more expense and hassle to mess with the aerial, especially as you've proved it worked ok with the STB.
Integral tuner may be less sensitive, but what can you do about that? If you can't use it - it's not fit for purpose.
If you will the end, you must will the means.
