you don't have instant custard in the house?
It's just egg yolks and milk if you make it http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/homemadecustard_3102.shtml0 -

Instant? I'm not allowed or I lose my OS safety pin!If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I haven't got any vanilla pods or essence, only cheap & nasty flavouring. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

I might have a go at Delia's another day.
I'll go for an uncooked filling, and about 4oz sugar. If it doesn't work, it's Churchie's fault.
Gee thanks  See post 12 ( I think)I did give you permission to precook:D
And as for custard :whistle::whistle:Lots of nice Bird's around, I wouldn't worry about your pin;)You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

Aw, I'm only kiddin'!
The pastry was a disaster - just crumbled & wouldn't roll. I'm guessing it was too dry, so I've added a bit more water & it's back in the fridge again. I can keep doing that until it's right, right? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I prefer cream anyway, so I'm just going to nip & see if I can get any.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

I knew that:D
In theory, you've just ruined your pastry, in practice it'll probably be fine:D
All this talk has made me yearn for rhubarb pie:o My rhubarb is having a little whirl round the microwave to thaw out. I'm going with Delia's rustic pie, but with sugar on the bottom, not semolinaYeah cream's the absolute best, or ice-cream and cream
