Has anyone put a 7600GT into one of the Dell 5100s? I have a 5100 and wanted to put in a 7600GT but it requires a PCI-E power adapter, running off TWO separate hard disk type power connectors (ie a Y shaped cable from two power leads to the card).
HOWEVER - the 5100 power supply only has one strand of power connectors with the old-style power dongles, and one strand with the SATA hard disk power dongles.
So how should I connect in a 7600GT, or should I not try?

Two words - Y splitter. I am a proud owner of a 5150 with a 7900gt and came across the same problem. Solution:

    1. Disconnect power from dvd drive.
    2. Insert y-cable between dvd drive power and psu cable
    3. Insert other end of y-cable into power cable for the card
    4. Insert the remaining psu power cable to the card cable
    5. Insert power cable into card

A y adapter is available from pc-world for about £3 (double price of on-line but dam postage costs!!). Your 7600gt should run sweet!

PS These cards are loud. If you spare the cash purchase a zalman vf-900 cooler from overclockers.com for £25 including p+p; it is whisper quiet and increases the overclocking cabality of the card ;)
    Link now removed! sorry

Dual CPU's! Not impressed so far with my 5150 - when playing audio files from my hard drive with windows media player the music stutters badly when I open other applications or dial up the internet for example. Anyone else have this trouble? Is it that the hard drive is not up to it? I have the 80Gb one, what is the cache on this?

No issues here on my 5150 (1gb/80gb version) playing HD WMVs with 10,000k bit rates in media player

id reinstall the OS (just for fun) to rule out the usual microsoft glitches

if no joy give Dell a call as could be faulty hardware.

watchout for making the same mistake as me....

I bought an ATI X850XT gfx card, dual width card with big heatsink and fan, which when i came to fit it reaslised there was no room to the left of the card.

luckily i had a spare single slot back plate to allow it to be secured and now just need to modify the case to allow the fan to vent :o

Any chance of moving this to the 'It's gone' section as this offer is no longer available? If it was I would buy one - but keep getting reminded what I missed by this thread keep popping up. :-(

I could have done that apart from two problems:
    1. I was trying to buy a PNY 7600GT from PC World (I know but they're local and I don't pay postage). This card states that it require power from TWO separate dongles on TWO different power leads (i.e. don't split off the same one).
    2. The PNY card requires a PCI power connector and this is not supplied with the card, and PCW doesn't stock them!
Pretty useless card really - requires your power supply to have two separate 12V power lines, and requires a connector they don't supply.
However, on searching the web there are some 7600GTs that don't appear to require any additional power - like the BFG 7600GT OC - so I'll see about buying a card online instead.
Can't afford a 7900GT though - Quidco haven't paid me for some recent transactions, so I think there's something wrong with my tracking since I installed Internet Explorer v7 beta.

Has anyone noticed very slow network copying speed on this PC. I connected my old Dell to my network and transferred a 4 Gb file from another PC - took about 14 minutes. Then unplugged the old Dell and plugged in the new Dell and tried to copy the same file and it took over 70 minutes.

Copies across the network start quick (about 66% of 100Mbps) but then slow right down to 8%.

Is it just my setup or has anyone else noticed very slow network speeds?

    Cheers.

I copied files from my old PC (on ethernet) over a 108 Mbs wireless card and got over 40 Mbps, which is the best you can get on a 108 card... so no problems.

right i guess people have had loads of time to install graphics cards for this beast now, so - woudl anyone like to offer the definitive answer on the best value card for this machine for playing games?? i was going to go for the 6600GT becasue you don't need extra power and I can't be bothered with that no matter how easy it is, is this a good choice?
