Well, I swear I read somewhere that for health we only need to eat about 4 ounces of meat-protein a day, so if you go by that reckoning your 800 grammes should make about 7 portions at least as I expect he's eating some protein in his other meals. Dunno what your husband would think about that if it meant a radical reduction in his meal-sizes, however.0

Hmm, I am probably not too far off then... I've just bought a bigger freezer so I can freeze more and I want to make the most of the space - at the end of the day, 800g giving 7 portions is not that far away from it giving 8 portions and he never complains about grated veg being added (of course, I cook it well, so he never actually notices the grated veg :rotfl:)
Getting 8 portions would work well as he could have something with chilli/bolognaise twice a week and I would only need to cook them once a month - I like it :T
Ok, now to think about chicken recipes that freeze well - I think the slow cooker will come into its own here!Aiming to be debt & mortgage free by November 2018!0 -

When I make chilli or bolognaise it always ends up working out 100g per portion (mince) as others have suggested. When the dish is complete I freeze into 300g portions which is ample for one person with pasta (100g uncooked) or rice (75g uncooked).0

I always just sort of go by roughly the size of a big handful (by eye, I don't pick up handfuls of sauce), so for bolognese I end up as between about 1.5 - 2 serving spoons per portion. However these are my-little-hands sized portions. I figure measuring portions of anything by the amounts that would fit in the hand works well as you will still get the different quantities needed by bigger or smaller people, as they have proportionally bigger or smaller hands!0

I agree with the 100g and if you can get a serving spoon and know roughly how many of those = your portion size you can easily divide up a large pot.0

hm, I think I must be a bit mean with my portions because out of a 1lb of mince which I'd mix with veg. I'd get 3 of double portion trays and a single so 7 portions.
