The guy was probably thinking "oh no ,not again, another row." The smug smile was probably weariness at having to have the same argument so many times.

no it doesnt but then again it didnt help you escellating it so neither party can claim the high ground

politeness goes an awful long way
    Point taken you are right.

    However.

I had conceded I was not getting my money back at that stage prior to embarking on my verbal tirade.

On reflection I think I was more annoyed with the attitude of the staff that dealt with me and felt my abuse was justified, it felt like I was defending myself, they seemed to get some sort of sick smug satisfaction out of informing me off my lack of rights, they probably go through a similar scenario umpteen times a day, with customers meekly wondering off in to the sunset with a pair of trainers they did not want and nothing more,

There is never any excuse for the way that you behaved in the shop. At 42 years old you really should know better.

Uh huh you clearly humiliated them by acting like a petulant child because you were thick and not getting your own way.

Tbh the only person who humilated themself was you except your too stupid to realise it.

    In the wrong? lmao

I take it you would have taken a credit note and then apologised for causing an inconvenience before leaving the store.

Also Maybe this has more to do with you being spineless and wanting to avoid confrontation at all costs
