    On the large size?
Interested in how that would work if the bag were a couple of cm over and everyone was boarding. Do they take cash off you at the boarding gate?
Have they a credit card machine at the boarding gate?

They have the right to send you back to check-in (which by the time you're boarding would probably have closed) if your hand luggage is bigger than their dimensions.
You'd then miss your flight - which would be your fault, not Ryanair's.

If you want to try it as a test case to see exactly what they'd do, feel free to do so.

Okay, now I have another question about their baggage allowance. On the website it says: There is no checked or cabin baggage allowance for infants, however one fully collapsible pushchair per child is carried free of charge and does not need to be prebooked.

Now, we're travelling with our daughter, who is nearly 3 (i.e. she not an "infant", she has her own seat). But it does say one pushchair per child. So can we take a pushchair for free - in addition to the one piece of hand baggage to which she is entitled?

Silly, silly, silly..... no one at Ryanair is going to ruin someone's holiday unless they feel that someone is taking the mickey with their luggage.

Just confirms to me my opinion of certain members of this forum.

I repeat, I have never seen it happen and have even had my costs waived when I had to check my luggage in because I had certain food items.

You would have to be extemely unlucky with poor interpersonal skills in order for this to happen to you.

I would suggest that your bag would have to be clearly oversized for someone to take such a drastic action against you.
  • [rant mode] Ryanair are a business that are shortly going to be getting themselves a LOT of bad press. They no longer allow the option of airport check in - thus removing for themselves a lot of staff costs - and then charge you for the priviledge of checking on online.

Ryanair are also a business that gets a lot of use by people who grow to depend on their routes - particularly from smaller UK airports to various European destinations. If the choice is Ryanair or no-one, then you'll fly Ryanair. For instance, I could fly Lufthansa, LOT or Ryanair to London. Lufthansa involves a change at Frankfurt, LOT involves a change at Warsaw - and Ryanair is direct. Guess who gets my money?

Ryanair have had plenty of bad press, yet people are still flying with them.
...add to that the additional charges for paying by ANY means other than a card that practically nobody uses, and overall they are really starting to push the limits.

They've been pushing the limits and accepted wisdom for years and got away with it.

As for your ill-founded comment that no-one uses Visa Electron - it's the main card in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Just because it's not well used in the UK doesn't mean that it's not well used by many of Ryanair's passengers.
The moment someone gets the wherewithall together to challenge that online check-in fee, the brown smelly stuff is going to hit the fan in a big way I suspect, as there is simply no WAY it can be considered reasonable. It's not a "fee" at all - it's an extra cost on the fare, and one which they should advertise from the start.

A challenge won't succeed, for the simple fact that the fee isn't charged on promotional fares, of which there are plenty available.
The fact that they are not, and that you don't become aware of some of the so-called fees until you get to the very tail end of the booking procedure is where they will find themselves in trouble. [/rant mode] :D Had you guessed I feel quite strongly about this?!

Armchair lawyers always feel strongly about these things.

The fees are CLEARLY listed on the Ryanair website. I suggest you read my thread concerning Ryanair 'scams' before making future comments.
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

This is what I find so frustrating, though. Some of the fees and conditions are not listed clearly on the website, hence my questions on this thread.

For example: can you show me where on the website it states clearly what the fees for airport check-in (as opposed to online check-in) are?

Can you show me where on the website it states clearly that you will not be able to check in online if you add checked baggage after your initial booking?

Can you show me where on the website it states clearly whether or not a child (as opposed to an infant) can have a pushchair free of charge?

This is the first time I've flown with Ryanair and I'm finding the process confusing and frustrating.

    Not silly at all.

Just because you've never seen it happen doesn't mean it hasn't.

I HAVE seen threads on here where people HAVE been turned away at the gate because of hand luggage size and consequently missed the flight as check-in has closed.

I think the advice you've given to JayZed about luggage sizes is irresponsible, so I guess that just confirms MY opinion of YOU.

I wouldn't be so sure, i travel frequently with most budget airlines approx 1-2 times a week & over the last 6 weeks they have been checking every bag at various UK airports. They just put it in their metal conainter to see if it fits.

    Yeah, you've seen threads.

So we don't really know how oversized their bags.

So I use my experience witn MANY years of travelling with Ryanair and say that I have never seen it happen with normal sized hand luggage.

This is a Moneysaving website. I can comfortably assure the OP that unless his bag is clearly bulky and oversized, no one at Ryanair is going to give him and family grief at the boarding gate.

I'm happy to back it up with my money. How about you?
