Which is better for Broadband? - Talk Talk or O2?

Hello forum,

Im in the process of changing my internet service provider and am not sure which is better. Im currently on BT broadband and although they are gona charge me a whooping fee for leaving them we are not happy with the service we have been getting from them since the begining of our contract...we tried to get out of it 7 weeks after signing up but we'r told we were stuck in the contract. But their connection is sooooo !!!!! From faulty equipment that keeps breaking down or burning out to internet connection that constantly disconnects. Anyways am soon gona be in a position to change ISP and dont know who is the best to go with. Have been with Virgin for years and dont really want to go back there.
Any advice would be much appreciated, anyone?

Thanks.

O2 is by far the best assuming it is LLU not access

Agree on 02, but are you on an 02 LLU exchange? Don't bother with 02 Access service if you're not.
02 also give you a discount if you have an o2 mobile in the household.
Are you sure the problem is BT? Disconnection could be a fault with your filters, internal wiring etc-have you done the basic tests to eliminate all these things?

I've had both and it's o2 no contest.

Superior Customer Service. Faster broadband. The only problem I've had with o2 was when some workers replacing pipework accidentally cut through the line. o2 kept me updated on repair progress 3x day via text and it was resolved within 48 hrs. They then sent me an email advising they wouldn't charge me next months payment! Result . :)

Problems with Talk Talk are too numerous to go into. We ended having to take it to Trading Standards or an Ombudsman (or similar) and still never got our money back.

O2 also cheaper if you have O2 mobile in the house. £7.34pm for the basic up to 8MB LLU service.

Thanks for the advice guys :) Im quite surprised that 02 is seen to be much better than Talk Talk! From some threads I read on MSE some time ago it was giving good feedback on Talk Talk...but isnt 02 a sister company of BT?

Hi macman, yup it is definately a problem with BT. They sent us the first hub which stopped working. The tech team done a check and found it to be a fault with thier equipment so ordered another hub to be sent out to us. The second hub arrived with the usb cable leaking hence it did not work. To get it to work I connected an old usb that I had to make it work...when we informed BT about it some cheeky customer service dude told us that as it was now working our call to them was pointless. *could have smacked him through the phone if i could* Then their phone stopped working..we didnt have a landline all throughout the christmas period..and when we contacted BT they told us that we do not have a landline with them! I couldnt believe what I was hearing....we had to convince them that we had a landline with them! Finally we gave up and bought another cordless phone which we attached to the hub and it is working fine now. So yeh...BT, from my experience, has some major issues.

O2 is owned by Telefonica of Spain. Nothing to do with BT
I've seen little good FB on TT here recently. When it works it's fine. When it doesn't, you wish you had gone elsewhere.
If you thought O2 was part of BT, why did you put it on your shortlist of 2, given your BT experiences?
Impossible to make further recommendations without knowing what your LLU options are, if any. Go to samknows.com and check what you can get on your exchange. Look at 'LLU operators presence', one of them will be your best option.

  • I recommend O2. Go through Quidco and I think it's £50 cashback at the moment. Really easy to set up, got the router the next day and customer service has been great.
  • Sorry for butting in here, but I'm on Talktalk, but thought I might get higher speeds on O2. I have talktalk LLU - Can I go on O2 LLU for broadband while remaining with talktalk for landline? The reason I'm asking is because I've heard there is a huge fee to get the BT landline back again!

The easy way to check is to put your phone # into the o2 home broadband website checker. If it doesn't recognise it as a BT based phoneline it will tell you. Of course if you do subsequently want to sign up make sure you clear cookies etc and go via the best cashback site (eg Quidco £50 + a PAYG dongle currently).

I believe you will find some postings on here of how to get your BT line back without too much cost, provided you commit for n months (perhaps 12-18).

I thought I'd made a posting to here earlier but it doesn't show. o2 LLU (ie not Access) is almost universally recommended by anyone who's tried it. It isn't perfect, but closest I imagine you'll ever find to it, and one of the cheapest too - especially if you track down the deals/cashback.

Worth having a look through the latest version of the document I update regularly all about the 17x differently priced Be & o2 (Telefonica Europe UK broadband brands) services - at
