You are responsible, so pay. If i was your neighbour, i would ask for payment and if it was not forthcoming, would get a solicitor involved instead of claiming on my insurance. This would lead to higher costs for you...that's if you are not upto date with your household insurance.

Jeez, I hope I don't live anywhere near you mate!

£600 for a couple of scratches on the bonnet seems expensive even if they have to respray the whole panel, I would have thought a figure of £350/£400 would be more reasonable, have you seen the estimate the garage gave yr neighbour? I would ask neighbour to take it to your own garage for a est, that way if it does get nasty you have a independent witness to the cost of the repair, sounds like yr neighbour is not trying to be very reasonable
ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.

how is the op meant to pay if she doenst had the money the neighbour is asking
  • As other posters have said this should be covered by the liability insurance on your household insurance policy !! Just provide your neighbour your home insurance policy details and contact your insurance company and ask for a claim form to be sent to you !!!

I would imagine if its a lease car, then the neighbour has taken it back to the dealership to repair and to get it done right, without impacting paint warranty etc.

Why should the neighbour risk getting it done 'cheap' when it might be picked up on by the lease company at the end of the lease.

If I was you, I would contact a company like chips away and see if they can do a smart repair. They can cost in the region of £100, but if they can do it it will be a lot cheaper.

You could try the ignore her technique as I reckon if it has to be claimed on an insurance policy they are unlikely to chase the cash off you.

However if they do it will probably cost more and you will have bad blood with the neighbour

That aside think about it from your neighbours perspective and why they should lose 600 quid or more

The neighbour can try to claim against your child, but is more likely to have greater success with their own car insurance but losing their no claims.
Having said that, I think you should pay for the repairs, but get at least 3 quotes from bodyshops.

I agree, tell her that you believe £600 as excessive and ask for a free quote from chips away
