Advise please concerning a child
Options
Hello everyone, this is my first post and I was wondering if anybody can help me please?
My 10 year old daughter was out on her bicycle 2 days ago and caught her trousers in the chain of her bike and fell into the neighbours car!. The result was a couple of medium depth scratches on the bonnet of my neighbours car.
The car involved is a lease car and my neighbour says she wants me to pay £600 to repair the damage to her car.-A quote she got earlier on today.
I am panicing now as I havnt got the money to pay for this damage and I havnt slept for the past couple of nights.
I know , as the parent I am responsible for my childs actions but this truly was an accident.
Does anybody know the law regarding a minor involved in an accident ??
Thanks for reading

The Law is it needs to be repaired.
You could try the ignore her technique as I reckon if it has to be claimed on an insurance policy they are unlikely to chase the cash off you.
However if they do it will probably cost more and you will have bad blood with the neighbour
That aside think about it from your neighbours perspective and why they should lose 600 quid or more0 -
Hope your daughter didn't hurt herself? Just wonder if your household insurance might cover the damage to your neighbours car. Might be worth checking out.0

Not a nice situation for either of you.
I think that you need to see if it is possible to get more quotes, although I think in a way your neighbour would be within her rights to refuse as its going to cost her time to organise that.
The only other thing I can think of is if it might be possible for you to claim on your household insurance, its a long shot but might be worth asking.
Unfortunately though as much as it was an accident by a child, the car will need to be repaired, not least as you neighbour will be out of pocket if she returns a lease car with damage.2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0 -

Definately go down this route. Household contents cover includes cover for legal liabilities incurred by you or members of your family. Bike accidents are included within this.
Report it to them and pass the quote to them. They will then take over the matter and deal with your neighbour on your behalf.0 -

You are responsible, so pay. If i was your neighbour, i would ask for payment and if it was not forthcoming, would get a solicitor involved instead of claiming on my insurance. This would lead to higher costs for you...that's if you are not upto date with your household insurance.I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.0 -
I just wondered, i've never rented a car before, but what would happen if you hired a car and it was scratched in a car park or something and you didn't know who done it?
Don't the hire companies have extra insurance for this sort of thing, and isn't that included in the silly prices you pay to hire?0 -

They inspect the car on return and will bill you the cost of repairing the damage.
You can take additional covers - Collision Damage Waiver and Collision Damage Waiver with nil excess when you hire the car. Well worth as I swear their vehicle inspectors could find a gnats whisker when it comes to spotting scratches on the cars.0 -
