She's got to be eating off the core menu then. Steak rather than roast, cans of pop rather than squash or not going to the mess & getting takeaways instead.

Criminals get free food in nick, but soldiers have to pay???

    I've heard it all now!

If they turn out to be innocent they have to pay it all back to, now that is shocking!

This really is a non thread, so forces personnel have to pay a very low amount for meals everyday, they also get very *cheap housing with all bills included (minus SFA). All as part of the package being a serving soldier. An opportunity to save large amounts of money every month to buy their own pad etc.

I would much rather personnel budget a little better for dinner money, than expect the MOD to foot the bill ........ better and lots more equipment is far more important.

Since when did we get bills included? Yes the housing is at a very affordable rate as we could not afford to buy or rent in some parts of the country, if there were sufficient houses available, which if you took quarters away there would not be!!

I distinctly remember paying utilities in married quarters and the accommodation charges for single personnel incorporate paying for electricity etc.

We pay also pay income tax and every other tax as well as civilians. When deployed on operations to places like Afghanistan we get an allowance which pays back in part or whole the income tax paid while away and we get a partial rebate from council tax (or whatever its called this week) as we dont need waste collection, use the roads or go to the library!

In the block you dont pay seperatly for gas, leccy, council tax, water etc do you, no ... you get a fixed price that comes out ever month, and its not alot at all. In SFA the water and council tax is taken out with the price of quarter. So it is actually included in the overall price isnt it!

Anyway I distinctly remember stating in my above post that ALL bills are included (minus SFA), so for you to reply saying you distinctly remember paying bills in your quarter, is quite frankly a waste of cyber space ... BECAUSE didnt it reflect that in my post??!!

Thanks for your reply, My fiancee is on her phase 2 training and now has to pay £9 a day just for food which I really dont think is on at all.

i'm affraid someone is telling porkies or maybe eating them,

    as previously said.
If the serviceperson eats the core meal. which is more than adequate, then the costs would be as follows.

£1.12 for breakfast this is cereal, cooked breakfast, 2 slices bread/toast/ and a cup of /tea/coffee squash

£1.28 for Lunch this again is varied

    £1.4o ish for dinner..

This is by no means the £9 you mentioned if a serviceperson wants anything from the retail menu then yes they do pay more.

but that would be the same in any restaurant.

    Someone needs a hug ;)

You obviously have issues surrounding service personnel and the composition of the X factor. Affordable housing is provided for numerous reasons, one of which is compensation for not being able to live in your area of choice. IF you do put down roots then you face voluntary seperation and commuting. All personal choice. If you wish to make a big deal out of it I suggest you speak to your MP and not rant on what your think is a non thread.

We get cheap housing so whats the big deal? You didnt think cheap food was a big deal.

Marker is obviously confused between pads housing and the block accomodation for singlies as well. In the blocks you pay amenities to cover leccy water etc. In MQs you have still to pay for your amenities as a householder, sometimes when lumbered with substandard or unsuitable accomodation.

    Wrong about the council tax.

In SFA you pay Charge in Leiu of Council Tax, which is above and beyond the charge of the quarter and incidentally is more than the council tax that the civvies down the road pay.
