You'll have to download the win 98 drivers from somewhere! :rotfl::beer:

Yes, that is the answer to your problem. However in practice, it will likely be very difficult to obtain these drivers, and also very hard to get the whole thing up and running on a Win 95/98 PC. It might even be impossible on Win 95! Probably the easiest solution for you would be to copy from camera to a computer that has USB, burn them onto a disc and transfer them off that way. If you don't have easy access to a Win XP or higher computer, try a local library/internet cafe.

Just remembered, when we had our Win 98 computer, there were 2 USB ports on the back of the PC. Have you tried looking there, because I know nowadays, most are on the front of the PC!

Why not fit him a PCI USB card? If it is running Windows 98 (you say 'W95-98'-which is it?) then you should be able to find a card with W98 drivers. No more than a tenner on eBay.That might extend the life of the PC as you can then use a USB printer/card reader and other USB devices.

Damn, forgot about that route. Best check to see if the PC has any PCI slots first.

It would be a weird PC that didn't. PCI slots go back beyond W95. But what OS does he have? W95 will only support USB if it is an OEM edn. A retail edn will not support USB. If it's W98 then no problem, as long as your PCI card comes with the W98 drivers.

this is getting too complicated even for me, so a 70 year old doesn't stand a chance, but thank you for all your advice, i think it would be easier for me to copy to disc for him, but i will ask my BIL to read all these points and see if he understands better than me,
    thanks again VLT

If you would just confirm what OS he is running, then it would be a lot clearer. Windows 95 or Windows 98?

If so it's W98 then. It can't be half way between!
It says what version it is when you boot it up.
In tha case no problem with support for USB as long as the card you buy has the W98 drivers with it.
