Tea, thats very kind of you and it would be wonderful but I think you would be contemplating jumping out mid flight with me sitting there and all my "what ifs" that would be springing to mind :) (BTW, Im a she - well was last time I bothered to look :))

My friends are an english girl (I use the word loosely) who married an american air force man when she met him over here. He is retired now from the USAF but works as an electrician still.

I think the passport will be ok. The swollen eye should be down by next week, I just have to get a photo done and then bung it off with my old passport. I got OHs through in 2 weeks last year in summer - its a lot easier when you are just exchanging it for a new one (I hope ).

The passport won't be an issue, at all -- but send it away ASAP, just to be on the safe side.
insurance wise, unless you have any 'dodgy' preexisting conditions, or if you are overs 75 years old, then go via the MSE favourite, Moneysupermarket.
If you are over 65, but less than 75, check closely, as some polices 'load' yu from 65, but others from 75 (if you are younger/a lot younger than 65, please don't be offended)

Im not quite a pensioner - I think Im ok re dodgey conditions, unless wonky ankles or knees count?

Ive had a look at moneysupermarket but theres such a difference in the quotes and yet the details all seem to be the same. I guess Columbus is a well known one, Ive used them in the past.

then if you are comfy with Colombus, go for it ! But bear in mind, that as long as the others are reputable/bonded, the policies would be 'safe'.

Thanks, just been reading the conditions and they ask if you ever had some things like hypertension - well I had tabs for that for about a month once. I entered yes and they turned me down :(

Have a look at the suggestions that are offered here, under pre existing medical conditions

Thanks. I sent my friend the schedule above and she said she had hoped Id stay longer. Not sure if thats wise though, best to leave still being welcome :)

Blimey, they want a huge amount of premium for pre existing - as its not existing now - was only for a short time, I think Ill forget about it.

Try Direct Travel Insurance. They covered my husband's hypertension and my PEMC that some companies wouldn't even give me a quote for.
