Delivery man - ARGH!!!

Sorry, I'm still trying to calm my anger over the delivery man so thought I'd share the anger with everyone else.
I was expecting a delivery today so kept an ear out for the door.
Went to sit on the patio this afternoon to enjoy the weather, leaving the door open so the dog would hear the door and alert me.
Next thing i hear someone shouting, thought it was my neighbour then shouted again. Turns out it was the delivery driver stood in my hallway shouting out of the back door to see if anyone was home. To do this he had walked past the lounge and doors to 3 bedrooms
My sister got inside first and signed for the parcel and driver was gone before i got to vent at him.
I just cannot believe that a delivery driver would think that this would be okay. He could have been in the house for ages before shouting and i wouldn't have known.
I've managed to get the address to complain to couriers
Sorry rant over

Maybe you shouldn't have left the front door open - at least it was the delivery driver that come in and not a burglar who took all your possessionsThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Would the dog not have alerted you if the door was shut?
Maybe the delivery guy had tried knocking the door and came into your house (as the door was open) shouting as he did so he could make the delivery saving you the inconvenience of going to the depot to pick up your parcel or arranging another delivery. He probably didn't even think he was doing any wrong.
I think you are being a tad unfair in making the complaint when you left your door open and perhaps you should have thought of the consequences before you did this - it could have been anyone who came in through that door and not just the delivery guy.
Chalk this one up to experience and don't risk losing the poor delivery guy his job by complaining bitterly when he was probably only trying to go that one step further and be helpful.0 -
i could imagine the flip side
VENT: the blooming delivery driver left a card,it was patently obvious we were home as i left the front door open and the dog would have barked if he knocked0 -
Sorry i wasn't clear. I meant i had left the back door open so the dog had run of the house and garden. The dog runs into the house when someone knocks on the front door. The front door was shut, it wasn't locked but it was certainly closed.
The delivery man still took it upon himself to walk into my house, through a closed door without being invited. He didn't just open the door and shout either, he walked through the hall, past the lounge, past 3 bedroom doors and to the kitchen at the back of the house.
Yes it is an experience to learn from but i don't believe any delivery driver has the right to just walk in uninvited. Anyone else would be in the wrong so how does this guy having a parcel allow it to be right?Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,it's about learning to dance in the rain.0 -
I wouldn't worry about but next time don't leave a front door unlocked and leave a note saying that you are in but for the delivery man to knock/ring more than once.0

I think your wrong. The delivery driver turned up. He knew someone was in the house so he was just doing his best to deliver the parcel, avoid disappointment and get the job done. Do you assume that he might enter your home with felonious intent? If so,why leave the door open? I call on homes too and im sick to death of the ones who say i didnt knock or they were in. What they need to do is listen out, turned their tv or radio down or not sit sunning themselves in the garden then blame me when i've been and left my calling card.0

He isn't allowing it to be right. He was wrong to open the door, but it's your responsibility to keep your property secure. An armed burglar wouldn't have worried too much about it either! When you're out in the garden, lock the front door and close the front windows. And if you're expecting a parcel, stay in the house until he's been.
You should report the guy for being cheeky enough to enter your house, because that's clearly not on, but have some sense and don't put yourself and your property at risk in future. If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
The trouble with most modern double glazed doors is that they do not automatically lock when they are closed - you have to turn the key. Lots of people do not lock the door with the key (I have got a security bar on mine so it can't be opened from outside even if the key is not turned) and anyone can walk in. I used to have enormous trouble when I worked with learning disability clients as we were forbidden to lock the door - it was deemed to be imprisoning the clients and was a disciplinary offence. Bearing in mind the amount of cash and various drugs kept in the house (and the fact that a lot of local people knew about it!) I was very unhappy and freely admitted that if a thief walked in I would not put up any resistance and would just offer him a bag to put his swag in !
The fact that many people do leave their door unlocked is worrying and a major security risk but it is their right to do so. It might be a bit of a silly thing to do but it does not make it right for ANYONE to walk in, however good their intentions. It is not an invitation to enter. I wonder what would have happened if the dog had taken a chunk out of the delivery mans backsideELITE 5:2

well i know how you feel we moved a few months ago and someone knocked on the front door before i could get to it ,she had opened the front door saying sorry i am at the wrong house, but she didnt even give me chance to answer.tbh honest after that i started locking it more (and the back door)but i dont think you should have to.0

I don't understand why anyone would have a lock on a front door that doesn't lock when closed. Am I understanding this correctly you have to lock the door with a key before its unopenable from outside? Seems madness to me , I want my front door SHUT when its closed if that makes sense...(unopenable from outside) I'd have to put the latch on to leave it open for someone to come inside..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
