Laptop problem any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a major problem with my laptop its running so slow its unreal. It can sometimes take 20+ minutes to boot if it boots at all. At least once a day it turns to a blue screen displaying this message Kernel_data_inpage_error

I ran the pre boot system assesment build 3020 and failed on two parts. The failure results were as follows:

Start DST short test
Test results: fail
Error code: 1000-0141
Msg: No drive detected

DST short status test
Test results: fail
Error code: 1000-0141
Msg: No drive detected

I have no idea what to do now as im not very good at anything techie has anyone got any suggestions?

sounds and looks like a HDD faliure at first glance

open the "start menu" and click on "run"(xp) or just go to the search bar (vista and win 7)

then type "chkdsk" for vista and win 7 or if in xp type "cmd" in "run" and press enter

then in the command prompt type "chkdsk"

this will run checkdisk and it may take a long time to do

if a message come up saying the volume is in use so do you want to run it on next start up type Y or yes or whatever it asks you

ok chkdsk can automatically fix errors but ive shown you the method to just check for errors

so no we will get to resolving when we figure out whats gone wrong

to retrieve the file go to control panel/administrative tools/event viewer

or search for *.log in windows

and dont worry its not dumb

its just not a common enough task for the mainstream to know what to do
