it literally just switched itself off while oh was playing on playstation, blew the main fuse box so everything went off, reset the fuse box and everything came back on except the telly, its stuck permanently on standyby.

Googled it along with model number etc and its a common fault and basically its knacked

I'd still try & get them to pay - esp. if it's a common fault. Under sale of goods act, they have to last a reasonable time, & it's not reasonable to expect to buy a new tv every 3 years. Will try & find letter I sent - had to pay for a survery type thing to say I hadn't mistreated it & caused it to break (they refunded cost of that) and they paid for a repair.

Reference: Samsung LE32R73BD Television

On 19th October 2006 I bought the above Television from your online store (copy of receipt enclosed) for £611.10. On 31st July 2008 it stopped working entirely - there was no picture and no sound.

I telephoned your Customer Services centre on 1st August 2008 and was advised to get an Engineers Report to show the cost of the repair including labour, and to show that the fault was not caused by misuse. I was told the cost of this would be refunded. I have now obtained this report (copy enclosed) which shows that the fault is a manufacturing defect, and that the cost of repair would be £300. The charge for obtaining the report was £30 (copy of receipt enclosed.) I look forward the this cost being refunded within 14 days.

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (amended by the Sale & Supply of Goods Act 1994 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002) requires you to supply goods of a satisfactory quality (which includes lasting a reasonable length of time), this fault shows that the goods were not of satisfactory quality and therefore I am requesting that you carry out the necessary repairs at your expense, or that you compensate me by another method:

1. Cost of getting the work done by the firm who provided the report
2. Replacement
3. Refund.

I look forward to this matter being resolved within the next 14 days.

yeh I think so thankfully. Its sooooo annoying, we had this HD ready tv for like I say just over 3 years. It took till about 2 weeks ago for us to get Sky HD installed and now we have it the telly has packed in.. how ironic is that :rolleyes:

I will see everyone later,off to pub to see friends before dad comes for me.Will be back 10.30pm when my brother is officially a married man,so hard to believe it really is but I am so happy.
