My son doesn't fit pipes. He usually sits on his backside and sometimes changes out valves and checks gauges. :D His apprenticeship is finished. He's still a trainee though, but he got taken on and has got a job.

It's definitely who you know. My husband got a start by getting a place as a yopper lol. It is a small world though. Even when they go overseas they usually bump into someone they worked with years ago.

At least hes honest about his work lol!
My husband worked for the same company since he started on the rigs and wheb they got into a bit of difficulty last year 'due to the recession' the work dried up and he couldnt get a foot in the door with other companies, he has the whole of the north sea (people he used to work with) putting a word in and this is the first job in 4 months hes got, and then this goes and happens.

It's understandable that you're stressed. I hope things work out with you (and your hubby!) tomorrow.
  • I'll second that. My OH got his job through someone he knows and now that he is quite high up our house feels like the local job centre. I've lost count of the number of times I've went out for a night out and came home with some blokes CV to give to him. (Used to be phone numbers I got :o:p). Good luck to your OH, hopefully whoevers bag he has will be at the heliport in the morning.

What does your OH do? Can i send you my husband CV too LOL.

I spoke to my dh this morning. He says he does need his passport. I asked him what would happen if he couldn't find it. He said he had a photocopy of it so he'd be okay.
  • Thanks for that! He has to take a flight to the shetlands before he gets the helicoptor so think thats gonne be a problem! He has a photocopy of his passport so if thats the case he should be ok.
Nothing handed into the police yet tho

I wouldn't know what to do if my husband worked from home. We've been married 21 years. Probably been together for half of it. He used to be month on, month off, and by the time he was due away I was almost pushing him out the door. :o

thats the thing, to start with it was hard adjusting to him being away,
i was very young, had never lived alone and there i was with a little baby...
fast forward a few years and him coming home for his time off used to screw up my schedule, disrupt everything and some times i couldnt wait for him to go back to work so MY life could start again! :)
  • Hello,

DH just got a call from the transport police, his bag has been handed in this morning! Thank goodness.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I can relax a bit now!

    Thanks again:j

No, it's one of the airports in Lerwick. The other one is Sumburgh. :)
