  • our daughter was 9 months old when he started going offshore (3 weeks on 3 weeks off) shes 9 years old now and doesnt know any different,
sometimes she says she wishes he worked here like other dads, but then i have to remind her that he wouldnt have all this time free just to spend with her, and wouldnt be able to afford to take her nice places...

kids are much tougher than people give them credit for!
  • Im sorry i just realised you said ex!:o

    thats ok,
i cant deny that him working offshore wasnt a factor in us splitting up... but dont worry it was FAR from the only one!
we had a l-o-t of problems!

we are both much happier now :D

Just wondering if he'd have enough time to phone his company before he goes to the airport and explain what happened. I assume he's staying at a hotel in Dyce tonight? It's a pity it's so late - he could have asked around, but I doube there'll be anyone going about at this time.

Was it the transport police he reported it to?

I'm sorry for all the questions. I feel daft that I can't help you.

We have our problems too! Being home for 4 months not working certainly hasn't helped, its amazing how you get used to them not being there so when there about all the time its hard to adapt back lol!

My eldest doesnt have any concept of time so we do the 'how may sleeps' about 3 days before he comes home and he gets so excited.

Its good you've both moved on tho, whats his trade?

I wouldn't know what to do if my husband worked from home. We've been married 21 years. Probably been together for half of it. He used to be month on, month off, and by the time he was due away I was almost pushing him out the door. :o

He travelled up with a few guys he used to work with (small world on the rigs), they have all said that it should be ok if he explains what happened something circumstances he said (i wasnt listening by then, i was just worried how we were gonne pay the mortgage by that point),

He mentioned the transport police so think he did report it to them.

He has to go to the company for his induction so they will till him if he can still go or not in the morning, fingers crossed everyone.

whats your husband and sons trades?

I'm sure it's not the first time this has happened. I'm sure they'll have something in place. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

As for the mortgage, my dad says there's always a providence. It'll work itself out. I've been in similar situations. At the time it seems like nothing else can go wrong. You'll get through it.

My son is an instrument technician, and my husband is a service engineer. Yours?
  • Pipefitter/instrument pipefitter, is that the same as an instrument technician?

Its not what you know on the rigs its who you know we have found out recently so could you put a word in for my husband if this doesnt have a happy ending lol! :D

My son doesn't fit pipes. He usually sits on his backside and sometimes changes out valves and checks gauges. :D His apprenticeship is finished. He's still a trainee though, but he got taken on and has got a job.

It's definitely who you know. My husband got a start by getting a place as a yopper lol. It is a small world though. Even when they go overseas they usually bump into someone they worked with years ago.

I'll second that. My OH got his job through someone he knows and now that he is quite high up our house feels like the local job centre. I've lost count of the number of times I've went out for a night out and came home with some blokes CV to give to him. (Used to be phone numbers I got :o:p). Good luck to your OH, hopefully whoevers bag he has will be at the heliport in the morning.
