Are induction hobs a non-linear load to an extent that would affect the cabling?

Induction hobs (our Neff included) often have a boost function which I beleive means that the usual diversity calculations are inappropriate. So as CKdesigner says it all depends on the rated load.

Hi, It actually doesn't sound like she has an induction hob, I have never known any manufacturer make a combined induction and non induction hob. They are either all induction rings or not as the mechanisms and control systems are so different. To be honest it sounds more like a combined halogen hob unit.

    Have revisited the Hob...
Definitely 2 induction (marked induction) and 2 others probably halogen
    AEG 67600KF-N

In Boiling water on the induction - heat was definitely generated in the area surrounding the zone - though not much whilst I was there, but am assured that when both induction zones are in use the control panel gets too hot too touch.

    Hi, Interesting!

With an induction hob the only reason why the glass should ever get hot is because of the heat from the pan being transferred back into the glass. So I wouldn't worry about it and get yourself the Neff induction.

Thanks for all your help. I am now looking at Neff Induction hobs and have a couple of queries:
    1) some eg T45D40 - say they must only be installed in natural stone or tiled surfaces - any idea why?
    2) Some have an extra non-induction warming zone- will use of this mean the whole surface could potentially get hot? (this goes back to my original query where a combi 2 induction, 2 halogen got too hot to touch the controls)
    Thanks

Could somebody advise me as to where I can buy some pans that can be used on the induction hobs. I have read about ferrous pans but still no idea where can I get them. MTIA

Hobs with a mix of surfaces are available, e.g.: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40156080

I have an induction hob, wouldn't look back - its awesome, better than gas and other electric types. Very controllable, heats blisteringly fast, and very easy to clean - I often clean straight after use whilst the surface is still warm (never gets really really hot).

My M & S stainless steel ones are fine. You need just pans with a magnetic base, and most are now marked with the types of hob they can be used on.

Yep - I just wondered why some would say they can only be put into natural stone or tiles surfaces. The implication is that they get hot - but induction hobs are not supposed to get hot, so just curious.

    Hi Dizzy,

Hopefully this will put your mind at rest.

What you are looking at when it refers to installing in a solid work surface is a flush fitting hob, so it is designed so that the top of the glass is level with the surronding work surface. So basically what they mean is that you can't fit that particular hob into normal laminate wortk tops.

Hobs with warming zones - I don't think I have ever sold one (We sell loads of warming drawers though) I don't think the zone would ever get hot enough to heat the surronding glass, so I would say its just up to you if you want this extra feature.

    Good luck.
