Well controlled asthma does not need to hinder you - you just need to learn what you need to do to control it when running, and appreciate it might have some limiting factors. I've always need inhalers before exercise, regardless of my daily medication. I've also developed a breathing routine when running which works for me. Practice is the best way as everyone is unique.

You're exactly right - i can run about 3 miles and then start to feel my chest and breathing tighten up. i've ran 5 miles and 8 miles before without a problem which is weird.

I can only explain it as sometimes it almost feels like i cant remember how to breathe and i have to stop myself panicking.....weird.

    I'm not giving up though!!!
  • I'm back from my first outing (experimental) with a quite local running club! I was late cos my sat nag took me a stoopidly long way around so I didn't get chance to have a proper chat with the coach who was a rather stern chap! (they told me on the way down his bark is worse than his bite! So we had a brisk run down to the sea front at Whitley Bay in the drizzle and he put us into groups - me with the slowest 13 minute group. And then we ran down onto the beach, along the sand and up the steep ramp on the other side and then around to the next bay and repeat until we got to 13 minutes, then we turned around and went back the same way! It was very hard on my calves (which were screaming at me!) but wasn't too bad. Then we jogged back up to the clubhouse but everyone quickly dispersed. The coach asked if I was coming back on Thursday, I said yes but since then someone told me they are running up the sand-dunes so I'm not sure about that - I might call and say I'll be there next Tuesday instead!
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.
  • Boo, I'm in bed with flu symptoms, everything aches.
I've barely been able to crawl out of bed all day and I was sick last night.
    :(

    ...Linda xx

Oh dear! I hope you haven't picked anything up whilst working on flu duty!

Was sposed to do a 9 today, but ended up doing 2 hours of footy back-to-back last night, so fairly stiff today - think I'll go out tomorrow instead :)

Meh - welcome to sub board life of 'maybe if we hide you somewhere you'll shut up and go away'...since we're obviously irritating the powers that be here - anyone got any suggestions where we ask for the thread to move to?

(not health and beauty please - I do not want to be with all the diet threads ;))

Edit: moy vote is for a ban to the arms
