Still no joy I tried rebooting the router, changing the channel and checked the the ping was ok. I am still able to connect to the router but not to the internet.

Through a cable the connection to the router and internet works but it is extremely slow.

I called the Netgear helpline (08701121206) and they didnt seem able to sort it out and just asked me to call back. I can't undertsand what the problem could be.

I am able to get to the stage of being asked for my Netgear username and password (admin and password) but the computer then I cant access the page.

I would really appreciate it, if anyone has any suggesstions on how I might be able to sort this

If that is with the wired PC then there is no obvious reason why you do not get the admin pages after you do the logon and password. If it's asking for the credentials then it's making the connection.

Does it show any page at all after the password request?

Does it ask for the password multiple times?

So long as you have your ADSL log on and password details, it might be worth doing a complete reset back to the factory settings.

What I would do is make sure that the wired PC is set to get an IP address automatically and then reset the router to factory defaults by holding in the little button at the back. Your manual will tell you how long you need to hold it in for.

When you've done this then your PC should get an IP address from the router and should readily connect to the router admin pages using the default router IP address from the manual. Assuming that you achieve this, then reset the ADSL username and password and try again for internet access.

    There's a troubleshooting guide here http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101237.asp

if you then ping 192.168.0.1 successfully, then you are talking to the router via cable, pull the cable out and ping again, it should fail, then plug it back in again, and ping. If it works, try internet explorer http://192.168.0.1

I thought routers IP addresses were 192.168.1.1 mine certainly is but then it's not a Netgear. One of my PCs PCI cards is 192.168.0.1 and the other 0.2 the router set by default and the cards set by me.

Netgear default is 192.168.0.1. it varies from router to router.

1.1 and 2.1 are common ones

Still no joy I have done the following:

    -Rebooted the router
    -Rebooted the computer
    -Re installed the wireless software
    -Checked the entire connection
    -Changed the channel
-Authenticated the computer through the cable wire
    -Checked the region is correct
-Removed all the firewalls/ad ware/security programmes
The only problem I think it could be is that the adapter is faulty. Although if it connects to the router ok should that not indicate that its fine?

With reponse to the previous questions when I enter the user/password the computer struggles to connect at all, then the 'page cannot be displayed' appears.

I have pinged my IP address and I get 4 responses. When I ping yahoo.com it is timed out. When I ping 4.2.2.2 I get 2 or 3 reponses only. When I ping 192.168.0.1 I thinkI get 3 responses. [Sorry I did this last night and I am struggling to remember

I am getting really fed up with it. So I may just take it back and buy a new modem. Can anyone tell me which out of these modems is worth getting from pixmania. I have got some vouchers for Pixmania so I have to buy a new router from here. Is there a massive difference in the performance between the prices? Are any of the routers which are cheaper than £50 worth getting? I would definitly never get a Netgear again.

Sorry to hear about your problems. You are very unlucky having ANY problems from a netgear.

Netgear are still the best for that price range in my opinion.

I'm going to have a read through this thread and see whats what...Not read it all yet.
