cat and neighbors car

So if I park my car in my driveway and a neighbours cat scratches it - it's my fault?Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

I don't think that's what was said.
Leave/drive a car outside, it will get damaged over time. As a previous poster said, if you want your car to stay in immaculate condition then put it in a garage and don't drive it.
Its a painted piece of metal with wheels, not a priceless artifact.0 -
If you or your neighbour have a hose pipe or water pistol, then whenever the cat is on the car, give it a quick squirt of water.
The cat will soon learn not to sit on that car and water will not hurt the cat at all.
It might mean your neighbour has a clean car as well!
Tally
I think this is a good suggestion and if the cat owner doesn't like it they can find some other way to keep the cat off the car.0 -
Legally I don't think there is any liability on the cat owner for the damage to the car IF the damage has indeed been caused by said feline. I have 2 cats and they take great pleasure in sitting on my rather expensive car bonnet (little toads!) - especially if it's nice and clean
However even my very clumsy fat dude with a damaged back paw where his claws are always semi extended due to a serious accident years ago hasn't managed to scratch it yet... nor did they damage my soft top MX5 before I got rid of that OR my Mini cooper... so I'd seriously question the claim that any damage was caused by the cat to be honest... BUT in the interest of neighbour relations it may well be worth buying a car cover for them as a nice gesture - if nothing else then to keep the car clean of pawprints

Cats DO scratch cars, not when they are climbing up on them but when they get down.
Our neighbours cat used to leave masses of marks on our car, because of the way the bonnet was shaped it had to hold onto something otherwise it would slip..
If the cat is already on the car and you schoosh it , be prepared for more than minor scratches as it digs it's claws in to get away quicker.
It's one of these not much that you can do q's, apart form watching for it ready to go up. The catsusually go up later at night when you have just got home, think it's the nice hot bonnet they like.0 -
So basically your saying screw him?
If someones cat scratches my car they will bloody well fix it - i'm fed up of having to try to t-cut out "random" scratches that appear on my car from lazy parkers and people who don't look before they open their door - if I find out who damages my car they will get an invoice for fixing it.
No, the law of the land is saying "screw him".
You would not be able to sue a cat owner for damage to a car.0 -

cats are cats, simple as. Come home last night, there was one of the local ones asleep on my neighbours prized FTO. Muddy prints up the bonnet, cat asleep under the screen.
Walked over, slid hands under cat, lift, plonk onto my bonnet instead. Mines metallic, but I accept that cats are a law unto themselves (owning 2), and mine was probably cheaper.
There was one at work, on top of the heads metallic silver SAAB 95..the idiot security bod was shouting at it/hissing at it and getting it well and truly worked up. Again, walk up, tickle behind the ear, pick up and plonk on the floor, then look at the security guy and say "moron". :rolleyes:0 -
you could try keeping your cats claws nice and short by regularly trimming them? i would also buy your neighbour a car cover, seems the right thing to do - and use a water-pistol/hose as a deterrant too.0

Legally there is no comeback if the neighbour drives his car directly at the cat but it still doesn't make it right.
Actually there is... if he ACCIDENTLY ran over the cat then no... but driving directly at the cat would probably fall under animal cruelty...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
