Having read this lot i feel confident egg will give me a no-fee BT anniversary in September. The 'morality of debt' is also the responsibilty of credit providers or put another way, there wouldn't BE so many people in debt if they didn't fall over one another to provide so much of it so easily.
No doubt there'll always be the odd one or two going BT fee-free thinking about it as if the rest dont, they'll snatch the business. Its a ruthlessly competitive market.

Given the secure messages I've had with them, I'm not so confidant you'll get it (unless perhaps you complain/threaten to leave etc.) Conversation in full:

Could you confirm whether or not I have a 0% anniversary offer starting 1st April, ending 31st August 2006?

    Dear Paul

That's correct, the anniversary month on your green Egg Card is April, which means that you'll be receiving an e-mail nearer to then detailing this offer.

Each year to celebrate the anniversary of opening your Egg Card, you?ll get 0% fixed for up to five months on any balance transfers you make during that month.

After your 0% period ends, you?ll continue to pay our standard rate at that time.

    Thanks for your message.

From the 1st May 2006 we are increasing the balance transfer handling fee to 2.5% per balance transfer, this applies to any balance transfer made during a special promotion, which now includes the anniversary offer.

As your anniversary month occurs before this you'll avoid any charge for this balance transfer.

You've ?15000.00 of available credit meaning you can transfer up to ?14250.00.

I trust this helps, thanks for your message.

If you look for 'special promotion' in the Egg Card Agreement on

http://www.egg.com/visitor/0,,3_11087--View_1068,00.html you'll see that the definition does cover anniversary offers:
Special Promotion means a promotion we may make available to all or some cardholders from time to time (excluding introductory offers available to new card holders)
.. despite the fact that anniversary offers are not not mentioned as such in the Agreement. What is confusing of course is that SPs have been charged for since last year - the capped fee - and that the Agreement says unambigously (7.2) "We will charge [for these]". Given that they have not charged for anniversary offers people have concluded that they aren't SPs - otherwise they would have been charged for along with the SPs.

Could Eggs 'failure' to apply charging to anniversary offers hitherto be used to argue that they are not SPs in the terms of clause 7.2 and therefore must be a 'different' type of offer which is currently 'undefined' in the Agreement. Does this create a 'loophole' does anyone feel? (possibly Egg would need to further amend the Agreement - which would buy at least another month and let some more stoozers through?)

Ah well, I did use my Egg card every now and then, but I might as well cancel it now. Bad Egg.

My message to them will be on the lines of: ' Can you confirm my 2nd anniversary, September 06. and that i can balance transfer in this month as per the original terms i.e. no fee.

If the answer is no then my next message will be: 'stick your card where the sun dont shine! '
