    Its all very confusing.

    I am a long-standing Egg card holder.

My 3rd anniversary is not until September. In the original email (I have kept it) from 25/2/2004 "Changes to your cash back & Egg card conditions" it says I will have an anniversary offer each and every anniversary (forever, until I close the account).

For the first anniversary September 2004, it was 0% BT for 5 months, and the email goes on to say that this particular anniversary offer will be arround until the end of 2006.

So will I pay a fee or not?

And what will the offer be in 2007 and beyond?

I think Martin's post says it all. We got differently worded emails each. We phoned to check which one was correct nd was told 4 different things by different advisors No fee at all, 2.5%, 2% capped at £50.00, 2.65% not capped.

We finally spoke to a manager who confirmed what Martin has now posted. The EGG card has been shredded. :(

How confusing...well with all the contradictory statements flying around I won't be shredding mine until this issue is completely resolved once and for all!

And I have a written statement from their customer services saying they will honour my anniversary offer, and "non special offer" BTs with no fees. Is this worth the cyber space it's written on?
If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...

Could they have mis-interpreted manager as 'minger'.
Clearly any mention of 0% around any offer that has a 2.5% up front fee is not 0%. Who do you complain to, given the web based nature of Egg and their web adverts ?

I don't think we have any room to complain apart from poor service, if you can be bothered. They have given us over 30 days notice to change and this is in the T&C's. As for the 0% deal lots of cards now charge a fee and get away with it. None of those deals are really '0%' :(

Lets face it, Egg are not going to lose any sleep about losing us lot as customers who were just creaming a juicy bit of profit off them every anniversary period.

Perhaps we should all organise a mass of complaints to the OFT in the light of the equivalent AER of these balance transfer fees.

Isn't APR defined as being calculated including any extra charges? I know that we are taking about AER not APR but I think the card companies are taking the mickey by effectively charging up to 6.x% AER and advertising a rate of 0%.

When they advertise the %age rate they should be forced to include any extra charges in the rate.

Let's get one thing clear, if any of you have it in writing (e-mail or otherwise) from Egg whereby they have expressly said that no BT fees will be charged, they cannot go back on that. It is probably a collateral contract which means they would be in breach if they sought to charge you a fee.

They certainly COULD charge you a fee and then make you go to court to get it back. Remember possession is 9/10th of the law.

You may be right, but it certainly could be a great deal of hassle to prove it in court.

As we are all now well aware of the official line then isn't it easier to just get another card, rather that take advanatge of an erroneous email and end up in court proving it.

All you are suggesting here is basically taking advantage of their error.

If you feel happy doing that then go ahead but bear in mind you might have to go to court to get what is rightfully yours and that could be a certain amount of hassle, emotional and financial risk.

Not worth it in my opinion.
