arrgggghhhhh help

i listed an item on ebay with free postage by courier

somebody wanted to buy it from me and arrange their own courier. they mentioned something about wanting to send the item abroad. i told them that free courier postage within the uk was included in the price so i could deliver to them and then they could arrange their own courier to send abroad.

i said if they paid by paypal i need to send them by my own courier for proof of delivery, but if they wanted to make payment by another method then i could deduct the courier cost from the item price and they could arrange their own courier.

last night they purchased the item and paid the full price by paypal. i immediately arranged a courier collection for this morning (I had another item being collected so it was easier for me to only have to stay in once for 2 items) i emailed the buyer straight after their payment to state that i would arrange a courier collection for this morning and they should expect to receive the item on thursday. i then emailed back with the tracking number.

this afternoon i have just had a message from the buyer:

"hi i dont want them send to my addres in leeds i want to arreange dhl to collect them thanks"

well firstly its too late as it was collected this morning and sent to the leeds address that the buyer supplied with their paypal payment, and secondly i would not have allowed the buyer to arrange their own courier collection if paying by paypal, as i stated in my message to them.

there was no message with the paypal payment telling me not to send them/not to send them to the leeds address and no message or email at all from them last night.

i have tried to contact them but the phone number ebay supplied me with doesn't exist. they have been registered on ebay for less than a year, and only have 90% feedback.

i wish i had blocked them when they first started asking about sending their own courier and sending abroad

what do i do? they are probably not at their leeds address anymore. i get the feeling i'm going to lose the item and courier costs

You quoted it all but you didn't read it, items have been sent already.

Goodness though, what a mess. I assume your courier is going to the registered address with paypal and will be tracked to delivery? Will it also show a failed delivery attaempt because if so you could always take the approach that you shipped this to the correct address and buyer failed to 'collect' or allow delivery .

I would be polite but firm with the buyer meanwhile, refer to your email and say that as you had received payment via paypal you took that to mean that your own courier was acceptable and therefore goods have been sent to the address confirmed by paypal and will be with you shortly'.

It does have scam written all over it. They arrange their own courier so that they can re-direct the parcel to wherever they want without your knowledge of where it ends up.

Get onto the courier with the tracking number and ask for a cancellation and a return to sender. You won't get your courier money back (they have after all performed a service of collecting and delivering) but you will get the item back. You could relist the item at a later date.

    new message from buyer

"hi i want to send by dhl abroad as present yo will recive them back becouse is not body there in leeds if you let me know when you get them back thanks"

oh yeah great, nice one, i've just spent £11 to have them returned to me then?

also the item is not something you would give as a present!?!

i've managed to contact the courier and a lady in the office said she can ask the driver to bring the parcel to her in the office

so i think i will ask if i can either collect it or have it returned to me. but then i don't want the buyer to collect with their own courier, so i will probably get negative feedback even if i just refund them.... and it should be a refund less the £11 i paid for postage really as they have messed me about

really don't know what i should do, sounds like i can get the item back but i will have lost the postage and probably get negative fb

yes it has been sent to the address in the paypal payment email, parcel has full insurance and tracking. parcel is hopefully going to be stopped by a lady i spoke to at the local depot.

i could risk it being delivered to the leeds address, but somebody there who is not the buyer may accept the parcel - i suppose that would be proof of delivery then, either that or no one answers and it gets returned to me... would paypal accept attempted delivery as proof of delivery?

hmm i think it might be safer just to get the item back and lose the £11

i have just replied to the buyer, that as per previous messages she can't pay by Paypal and arrange her own courier. I also asked why she didn't send me a message with the payment asking me not to send them, and said if parcel is returned to me then I have lost the £11 courier costs.

not sure how i worded it. buyer is an idiot. they will be refunded less the £11 postage.

i have lost the ebay final value fees of about £10 too, as i doubt i can get them to agree to a mutual and i can't do an unpaid item dispute because they did pay.

maybe i should refund less the fvf too and hope they are too stupid to do a paypal dispute for a full refund

You hang on to the item.

I think it is a classic trick, pay via paypal, they collect item send it where ever inthe world, then tell paypal it never arrived, and get a refund.

You by now are missing one item, plus paypal have reversed the money.

Risk the neg and the loss of £11 and get your item back!

Refund money to buyer and block them.

    Good luck

i've phoned the courier back and asked them to return item to sender.

paypal haven't reversed the money... yet. buyer is already blocked.

they've cost me the £11 courier costs and about £10 fvf

i don't understand why they went ahead and bought it when i told them they could not arrange their own courier if paying by paypal
