Would you stay in a hotel you'd had bad service in?

You should have let them call the police as they were holding you unreasonably and could not have physically restrained you.
Your dispute was a civil matter as you were not stealing from them and they had no right to stop you from leaving. The police do not deal with civil matters, only criminal and you had committed no criminal offence.
If you are ever in the same situation again one of you should just leave and get the money. If they try to detain you both then call the police yourself and threaten to sue them.:D

Thanks for that Poppy, it's nice to hear that we weren't actually criminals.
The hotel in Dublin is fully booked for the night we wanted (which is due to a concert were going to too!) so we've asked for two nights free of charge in Liverpool including breakfast and stuff. So if they do that I'll be happy, it'll be 1 euro flights over and an ideal moneysaving break. The least they can do for what they put us through. It ruined the previous three days completely.0 -
I'd have sat down in the middle of the hall on the floor and waited for the police. Sounds like it could have been fun

We would have if a) I wasn't hysterical by this point and b) We didn't have a flight to catch in a few hours0

Sorry I don't get it - if you book online - surely your stay is paid for?
Why would they charge you more? Certainly their site doesnn't say they'll be more to pay (although you must have been expecting it as you asked int he first place?). How much did you pay online?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
We thought (at the time) that the amount was fully paid when we booked online. Most websites I thought took payment straight away. However when we've stayed at other hotels (Jurys Inn did this) they just used your card details incase you didn't turn up for your first night and charged you a room cancellation fee. Thats why we asked if everything has been paid. In the end though, it ended up being that nothing had been paid on the credit card, something which they wouldn't let us use a phone for to check! Like I said it wasn't that we were refusing to pay, we had just wanted to check nothing was taken from the credit card.
We assumed when they asked for £79.00 they'd taken a deposit off the credit card and wanted the rest now which we were more than happy to do and why we asked if anything was outstanding.0 -
Sorry - okay that makes more sense. I thought youd been ripped off from your opening post, but perhaps not then - just treated appaulingly.
Good luck with your free nights - I hope you get them."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Try the Malmaison in future; nicer hotel and better service. It's such a shock that such a premium hotel would behave so abhorrently. The SAS Radisson in Liverpool is touch and go too; I remember being accosted by security when being taken by a friend to their suite for a party with another friend, when I was quite clearly0

Thats good info thanks, considering it looks like we'll be staying there in the not too distant future.
I don't know whether to put it down to the fact the hotel has only been open six months or that their staff are liars and incompetent...I'm still deciding that one.0
