Never Enough, OMG!! I bet they have a TON of stuff they never wear! My mother-in-law is like that too with clothes literally stuffed in wardrobes so it's all squashed up, clothes that are donkey's years out of date, things which don't fit etc. Now they are moving into a small bungalow for their retirement and she has the daunting task of weeks of sorting through it all!

My sister is super organised & actually doesn't have that many clothes. She knows what goes with what & how to accessorise perfectly. My mother, well she could be your MIL! Not going to change her at this stage though!

Decided to sort out mine and the childrens' wardrobes this morning. Started with mine - tried everything on and wept buckets as hardly anything fitted. I have two pairs of jeans which aren't a brilliant fit, 6 t-shirts, and one skirt which I have nothing to wear with. The clothes which are a bit too tight have gone into storage until next year. If they don't fit then they are going to the charity shop.

DD1 - her wardrobe was heaving, but isn't now! She now has one pair of jeans which fit, and about 16 tops which go with them, plus about 4 skirts which nothing matches, so tomorrow we are going to see if we can buy anything which matches, plus another pair of jeans.

DS - he's got two pairs of trousers with tops to match and two pair of 'shlongs' with tops to match.

DD2's wardrobe I did a few weeks ago. DH I won't touch - but as he's a khaki wearer he's ok (DS is the same as him and won't wear jeans)

Children's winter clothes have been put away until later in the year. If they still fit then, fine, otherwise they'll go out and we'll have to look for something else.

I think DD1 feels more 'liberated' about her wardrobe now that she knows what goes with what!

My mum tends to buy the children clothes, but doesn't always buy them clothes which 'go' with anything else they've got.

I threw all of the clothes & things I didn't like, or didn't fit down the stairs as I was sorting things out. My OH came home & thought we'd been robbed! :o
I've run out of bin bags to bag them all up at the mo, but I have filled SIX black sacks so far. Then I got distracted by the garden & sun. :D

I have an EC hanger mountain in my utility room now too.

having followed Sharns advice - I tried on a dress or two . Have found one I like, and looks good, (a little bit big around the bust line though). They are holding it for me whilst I make a decision as I would like it to fit perfectly but dont think thats going to happen (its reduced from £150 to £40). Its a bright green silk shift style dress with a low back (and its about two inches above my knees - so no playing five a aside football the week before the wedding....). However having religiously followed the thread on capsule wardrobes and the like, how do I accessorise this dress so that it can more than just a one off. (as I would like it to be moneysaving and useful and surprisngly I quite like the dress). I am trying to learn, have managed to throw out some old clothes and stuff that does not fit, the next step of capsulating is currently beyond my conception.
Do you capsulate your underwear and shoes as well?
  • Glad you found something ocemeer. Why not ring around any places that do alterations, usually wedding shops are a good source of seamstresses, get a price, then decide. A perfect fitting garment is priceless. Okay, why not try wearing the dress over trousers for an alternative look, or with leggins and a sloppy cardi to dress it down.

Accessories for your wedding tho, i would go for a big hat and maybe put some fresh flowers in it or take a look in accessories for something that is tonal for the dress or contrasting. You could get away with a cream wedge sandle as high as you wished these could be worn again with jeans, linen trousers.

    Hope that helps

I do capsulate my shoes, but not my underwear, i only ever own about 5 bras at anyone time, a nude on, black one, cream one and ahemm u know;) them 'sexy' kind!!!! Knickers are the same 3 pairs of black, 3 nude, 3 cream, and ones that match the other bras. My nightwear borders on disgusting tho!!! Need more work there!!

Don't think i could ever capsulate my underwear, it is my one frippery. Sharron - as always your advice is spot on, love the idea of flowers in a hat and if I choose neutral shoes (have a great pair of tan slingbacks) i could go for a huge straw hat and decorate.
