I'm trying to watch episode 2 of Mary queen of shops but it's really frustrating as the picture is about 15 minutes behind the words. So I've stopped for a rest.
I don't bother with round the house clothes, if I want to slob out then I get my jammies and dressing gown on. Everything else has to work hard. It has to be able to withstand scrubbing the loo or doing the hoovering, catching up with washing up and cooking.
Today I am wearing my above ankle bold print brown and cream dress (monsoon) with my little white cardi (tesco) on top. The price for the outfit was zero. I was given the dress by a friend from work and I used money off coupons to get the cardi from tesco a couple of years ago. No jewellery as I have my watch on and the dress has some beading around the bust line. When I go out I will wear my tan sandals (France £15 and worn for 4 years nearly every day in the summer, so perhaps 4p per wear?).
I have taken the kids to school, come home and washed the dishes from last nights tea and breakfast. Cleaned down all the kitchen sides, swept and mopped the kitchen floor, hoovered downstairs and then sat down to watch the programmes. So the dress is working for me!
I wear sandals a lot when I'm not working as they are comfortable and stylish. Don't forget ladies to look after your toenails. Nail polish isn't expensive and can have a huge impact on your outfit. I have scarlet on at the moment which means that I have to change it before I wear my pink trousers. At the moment it is throwing some necessary colour into my outfit which could look a little boring if I didn't have any colour on.
Anyway I'm off to struggle through the rest of this dreadful Iplayer episode.

Are you able to take any gentle exercise angel? I'm sure that may help kick off the weight loss a bit. It must be really frustrating for you, but you're right to concentrate on healthy eating as your body's still obviously in recovery mode.

Someone on an earlier thread suggested a Debenhams personal shopper as a way to get a fresh slant on clothes. I was always worried that I might end up spending loads on clothes I didn't really need, but the suggestion was to make an appointment and say you're looking for an outfit for an occasion (wedding), with a budget of £XXX. You don't have to buy anything at the end of the day, but I would be interested to see what they came up with and of course Debenhams has all the concessions, so they do fit a range of budgets. Also the advantage for you would be you could check out the website at home and make notes on anything you fancy, but the personal shopper will do all the running round for you!

thanks bronnie, yes i can do some exercise now. i have basic exercises i do for back and leg every day anyhow. i can now walk and carry a little as i am so much better so partner drops me into town days i need to go in and i can walk around and do stuff and then walk home. i can take the dog out for walks at weekends as long as i have someone with me to do the lead. i also have a cross trainer which i can use for just a few minutes at a time. but i am not losing weight  oh also i do cleaning in moderation and same with gardening. i think before i do things and stop if i dont feel right. i have managed to decorate downstairs cloakroom with this principle so it works as i never thought id be able to do stuff like that again :j i think next time i go to town ill try debenhams person as i d need a wedding outfit desperately so will be interesting to see what they can suggest. i found a PERFECT dress from simply be. its halterneck red and white sundress and at the back it was elasticated. not so smart for a wedding but i could have really dressed it up. it was perfect as was fine on back so i need to try and find some more dresses in this style but dress i ordered was supposed to be an 18 and felt like 3 times too big for me and even though dress is still on the site it is not available in any smaller sizes. I do know the sort of stuff I like which should be a help too and what used to suit me - v neck tops etc.
i have told partner i am not planning on spending a day when im better from virus getting rid of everything that no longer fits once and for all - this will be all my gorgeous work stuff that i have been hoarding. and then focus on getting stuff that fits me the size i am now and is comfy. if i then suddenly lose weight i will be gutted of course

Is it simplybe that do larger sizes. I have found these companies often make their clothes way bigger than standard as you've found. Their size 18 for example bears no resemblence to mainstream high street size 18. Helpful and encouraging if you're a larger lady though, just a shame you've missed the boat on that one. I have found Monsoon (online too)to be quite good for dresses and their many of their styles and sizes are good for curvy shapes. Should be sale time soon too!

I'm sure you can get yourself back on track, you are obviously doing everything you can to make the best of your situation and as you sound like you were organised with clothes before and know what you like/ what suits you, just a bit demoralised with your situation, as we all would absolutely be.

Keep reading the threads, we have been asking MSE for a dedicated fashion forum/board so if you think its a good idea, perhaps you'd like to post a note of support for the idea on our thread on the Site Suggestions Forum.
    Good luck

thanks again bronnie. i tried monsoon for wedding outfit as i normally like lots of their clothes but at the moment nothing that is right sort of style for my shape. high fronted dresses seem to be in fashion at the moment and no way they will look right on me at all whatever size i am :D:D:D
wallis stuff usually fits me REALLY well but once again dont seem to have anything at the moment that either matches with what I already have or styles that I can imagine myself wearing if I get some different things.

    Hi all

After reading the old style clothes thread last week i spent the other evening trying on everything in my wardrobe promising myself I would throw out everything that didn't fit or was soiled.

Well i only got through the stuff on the rails and my undies drawer but to my amazement I found that a lot of the things I wasn't wearing because i thought they didnt fit me actually did! (though the suck-it-in pants helped there!)

SO this week everyone at work thinks I'm wearing new stuff but it's all been hiding at the back of my wardrobe. I did throw out/ give away a few things though and feel surprised at how much wearable stuff I do actually have.:T

Maybe if you line it up in your wardrobe as outfits for work that will help and get you wearing it. When I was working full time Id have the clothes all hung and ready for the week with a few spare outfits dependant on if it got hotter one day or if i had to look extra smart at short notice for an important meeting. Id have the clothes hung as outfits with the jewellery and appropriate shoes and make sure it was a bit different than the last time - ie change the tops around with the suits etc etc. I was really organised and efficient and looked nice! Now I have all these clothes that dont fit and I am disorganised and its driving me mad as all those nice clothes and I cant wear them plus I have no job to wear them too :D

Well I used to be a shop a holic (gawd its like an AA meeting!!) Anyway I've got 5 double wardrobes 1 single wardrobe and 5 sets of drawers, they are all jammed full of clothes I am having to hang on the outside of them now! I have to wear the same stuff all the time as I can't really see what is inside there, I definatly need Gok to come and sort me out I have a range of clothing from a size 12-20. I have that much stuff now i don't really need any more clothes but end up buying stuff i dont really need as I can't see what is inside!

  • Kaz made a very good point about grooming. I am meticulous about it. My hair is washed daily and syled. Cut and coloured every 5 weeks. Make up done daily, and taken off before bed and nails painted about twice a week. Kaz i also colour co-ordinate my toe-nail polish. I also pluck my eyebrows daily. I think you can have the best well thought outfit on, but it would mean nothing if you have chipped nail varnish or dirty hair.

My slobbing about clothes are a couple of velour trackys pre capsule. They are only really worn when i am ill, or staying in doing housy jobs. Infact i don't think i would miss them if they went.

I think that you're my twin, except I have bigger drawers!
I bought some things a few weeks ago, only to find 2 of exactly the same tshirts in the ironing basket this week. That's my biggest downfall as I hate ironing, I just forget about things at the bottom.
Agree with the getting rid of 'decorating/gardening clothes' because, certainly in my case I rarely decorate & wear ordinary gear in the garden.

I don't need to do much ironing now because, now that we have so few clothes, washing is much less of a chore. There is very little to be done and as soon as it is dry, it is hung up. The creases then fall out. If it looks a little crumpled before I put it on then I will iron it there and then so the most I would ever have to iron in one go is 4 outfits (one each!).
I've just ordered some new undies from brandalley. I baulked at the £5.40 delivery charge but checked out the label online and it still represents a saving at £24.odd for 2 sets.
