Rule number 1: If someone from Africa contacts you, put them on your blocked list!!! (Especially Nigeria)

As a seller: don't accept Paypal if you are not prepared to lose the money and the item.

As a buyer: Always pay using Paypal, unless you are prepared to lose the money and the item!

The only problem with that is if sellers don't use Paypal and buyers always want to use Paypal you wont be able to sell or buy anything :p

    Just a thought.

Which is why I will continue to accept paypal, I assume my buyers are like me and will only want to use paypal and not bother with any other payment method.

But can someone list in bullet points how you would best protect yourself and limit the chance of fraud against yourself and what measures we should be taking basically. :j

    My terms on ebay.

It is my duty as a seller to ensure that your purchase gets to you. ALL items lost in the post are MY responsibility, and I promise to either have the item found or your money refunded in full. All items are insured (up to £30) with a free Certificate of Posting incase of loss in the post.

    About my terms.

Going back to the post about recorded signed for mail - my postie just puts recorded mail through our letter box without even pulling the sticker off. We have a serious amount of post that goes missing ,too. I have complained, but nothing has changed.

I'm thinking of introducing a discount system for people who don't use PayPal for payment.
eBay will stamp on you if they find out. It is one of the unfair terms associated with the eBay/PayPal monopoly that you are not allowed to offer discounts if paying by another method. Remember the good old days when credit card companies were able to enforce the same unfair condition?

It's a myth! I just sold something myself. I've been keeping an eye on the similar items for sale before I listed mine and it's just sold for the same price as the others and I don't accept PayPal. Sure, there are buyers who won't bid because of it but there are plenty of others who will. Items tend to find their own value, PayPal or no PayPal. At least in my expreriance.

I don't think that based on a sample of one, you can declare it to be a myth! PayPal is so ubiquitous that if someone doesn't accept it, you tend to wonder why (except when they say they don't like its high charges or they've been ripped off by fraudulent chargebacks, in which case I'd be positively encouraged to bid :rotfl:).

  • i think your probably both right as Blackjack Davy said "Items tend to find their own value," But as gromituk said "PayPal is so ubiquitous that if someone doesn't accept it, you tend to wonder why".

I like to keep all options open, But that is me ;)
