Also why was the woman with t he £78 corset using recorded delivery? No one seemed to pick up on the fact it should have gone special then if buyer claimed non receipt she could have claimed back from the RM?

Even if it goes special, your are not safe.

I Received Two e-bay deliveries yesterday both special Delivery.

Postie handed them over and said.

"Don't worry about signing i'll do that later...."..!!!!!!!!!!!

So if I were dishonest.. I never received them. ... as I did not sign anything.. . so could do a pay pay claim back.. and in the balance of probability get away with it.. .. getting my £100 or so back.. to spend again..

My point was that if a buyer doesn't get their item and a signature was not obtained then you have a case against the Royal Mail for non delivery as their Special delivery service guarantees a signature and can supply a copy of that signature to the sender at no additional cost. So if there is no sig then the Royal Mail will refund. If you believe and have any proof that you have a dishonest postmen, then you should be reporting him immediately to the Royal mail and to anyone else that will listen. The vast majority of postmen are good hardworking people, if you know a less than honest one then protect the honest ones by reporting him.

HOwever, recorded is just standard mail with a signature and only carries insurance up to £30, so in the case of no sig you would not have a claim against the RM as you did not use the service that gave the correct amount of insurance. You also have to pay an additional £2.50 to obtain a copy of the signature in cases of dispute.

It is very rare indeed not to get special signed for as it should be delivered seperately, not by the Postmen.

When I use paypal I insure myself (usually with just a COP) against loss by the Royal Mail, If a buyer does not receive their item I refund and claim my losses back from RM. I consider myself responsible for my items until the buyer gets them, therefore I don't worry about paypal chargebacks for non delivery as it should never get to that stage.

Being both a buyer and seller on ebay I would never dishonestly do a charge back with paypal, and in a perfect world other ebayers wouldnt either, knowing the problems it can cause, however there are a number of dishonest people that will try their luck to see if they will get money back for goods they have recieved. Now, my worry is it is becoming wide spread that this charge back system tends to favour the buyer so sellers are losing out. How many buyers are now going to try their luck to see if they can get away with it? The more this is publicised the more people will become aware and try it on.

Don't PayPal limit the amount of these you can do per month/year?

I'm thinking of introducing a discount system for people who don't use PayPal for payment. Meaning my sales remain high but my payments through there may reduce!

Yes, isn't it three a year or something?

What might help, and it is something I try and remember to do on the at the moment rare occasions I get a lost parcel, is to leave positive feedback apologising that RM lost their item and confirming refund made. Sort of a code to future sellers who may see a pattern if someone tries it a lot.

Ok so a buyer can potentially rip 3 sellers off a year, I read one on paypal sucks about someone getting ripped off for just over a grand. Its a bloody lot of money to lose.

As a seller: don't accept Paypal if you are not prepared to lose the money and the item.

As a buyer: Always pay using Paypal, unless you are prepared to lose the money and the item!

Not guaranteed in all cases, but worth keeping in mind.

Sadly, there is a lot of misinformation that is in the media about using ebay and paying with Paypal which makes people believe it is totally safe and no other method can be used as that is "outside of ebay".

I agree that there is a lot of misinformation out there. You only have to look at some auctions to see potential problems. How many sellers who accept paypal still state that they are not responsible for items lost in the post unless buyer pays extra for optional insurance? Madness, and those sellers will be the first to complain when the buyer does a chargeback for item not received.

Also, it came up recently on another list that some sellers think that just by sending something by recorded or special delivery they are covered regardless and are surprised when paypal find against them when the item shows as undelivered. I htought it would be obvious, but apparently not, that the item still needs to show as delivered.

I would agree though that as a buyer I wouldn't even bid on something for a fiver unless I could use paypal. It might have its faults but at least I have more protection using paypal than I do by any other means.

I have recently started using Ebay & Paypal to sell Brand New Phones, (I am a mobile phone dealer). Easy way of a bulk seller like me cutting out retailers and making bigger profits. (I'm breaking rule number 1 of wholesaling  )
But can someone list in bullet points how you would best protect yourself and limit the chance of fraud against yourself and what measures we should be taking basically. :j

btw, i am 'Sheraz2's brother  incase some of you know him
