So my renewal came through from the AA, up to £189, and this time I knew it couldn't go through automatically as I had cancelled the Direct Debit. Found equal cover (I don't need the extra things on "Gold" membership) with Green Flag for £98 with £43 to come back from Topcashback. Have written to the AA briefly to cancel after thirty years. No reply, of course!

This year I left the AA after 22 years of service.
I had had enough of having the pish taken at renewal time.
Every year I would ring up and beg to pay the same price as a new member, this year I thought do you know, this company have blown it.
Why should you beg to have the 50% existing member tax waived .

If anyone has any good idiots guides to cheap breakdown post it up, I dont understand the cash back sites very well or how to work them.
    Be happy...;)

Couple of youngsters then , 30 and 22 years , I have cancelled after nearly forty years . Three cars in the family . have called out the AA ( as far as I can recall) less than 7 times ...... in forty years.
But they wanted £70 more this year than last ....... and no I have not used them this year. When I inquired why the rise , 'you got a good discount last year' ??
If they could give me a 'good' deal last year AND I did not need to use their services in the 12 months , why no matching of last years cost.

So the AA have lost a member of long standing. I don't suppose they care .

Well, somebody needs to pay off their loan - Acromas Holdings, who own the AA, had to take a huge loan to finance the purchase.

    Acromas mid-year update:
Our improved cash generation has helped reduce our net bank debt to £4 billion - the lowest since the business was founded.

No alternatives for breakdown cover ?
Green Flag look to exclude what they promise on recovery plus with extra hidden T+C.
I want my car taking to my garage with no questions asked, not some back street hillbilly merchant miles from anywhere.
Or is there a hidden way to get AA cheaper via cash back.
    Be happy...;)

The AA website does not work, it either drops the level of cover back to £32 or says it has timed out when you want to pay, even if you type at Olympic speed.
Probably trying to trick you out of cash back by asking you to start over on a new page.
Tried several browsers with topcash back and the AA site pulls the stunt at payment options.
They must think folk are daft .

Don't think I'll be doing this, somehow. Sending me the last renewal letter blew it.

Have a look at Topcashback - take a bit of time to read on the site how it works: it does!:)
  • I just got renewal from AA after 18 years of membership - £179 for "Gold" for 2. What a prize for my loyalty.

Rang to cancel, got it for £109 for us both with roadside relay (no home start) Takes 2 weeks for new quote, so will remember to check they have taken revised amount. Don't trust them!

They make me sick doing this every year. RAC seemed to be more for same cover though?
