Cost of AA renewal !! - long standing member

I get this every year when my AA cover is due to run out. Just ring them up and threaten to leave - they'll lower it without question.
I've actually managed to pay less than the previous year - never mind the renewal amount they're asking for - by doing this. It's a complete charade but one I have to go through every bloody time.
I actually rang up once about something completely unrelated to renewal (although it was coming up to renewal time) and the woman lowered the renewal amount without me even having to ask!0 -

I have done this every year now for years with the AA. I noticed this year they even had an option on the phone menu for it. Its ridiculous, but its the same with so many companies. There are no bonuses for loyal customers.x x x0

I change around every year - typically pay £10-20 per year for basic cover after cashback. Renewal quotes are normally around £75, so I cannot see the point of even attempting to negotiate a lower renewal quote.0

There is an AA employee who sometimes posts on MSE. I would suggest that he takes advice from the AA and posts some straight replies on this thread - it looks as if the company have a lot of explaining to do.:(0

I flip between AA and RAC as both extract Urine come rewnewal time... Joint Policy with GF and its bought solely on the recovery Aspect as if a vehicles dead its dead no matter how handy you are. And if we are both together and Car trailers at home we be Fubar'd....0

AutoAid will provide you that cover for £37.00 per year.

I doubt the AA will match that even if you do manage to get any discount.
Note that AutoAid is a pay & reclaim service though, not free at point of use like the AA, RAC, etc.
Have to agree -although I've just had my autoaid renewal and its £38.
Bear in mind the op quoted that as a joint policy price though?
Autoaid sorted out a mc recovery earlier this year that would have cost £535; and paid out to my cc within 10 days of the claim in full.
Very satisfied with that!
It's all very well quoting prices and conditions of cover but the real test is how they perform when needed.
Needless to say ill be renewing tomorrow!Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
I've had a reply to my three page letter complaining about the way renewals are done and requesting a significant refund.
Although it doesn't say a great deal, the AA have at least stated the following:
"Thank you for your letter. This has been received by the Member Relations Department and arrangements will be made for an investigation to take place.
Once this has been completed, we will contact you to advise you of our findings. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention."
So they haven't thrown it back at me, but I wonder if this is a standard letter that gets sent for all complaints. They also enclosed a separate sheet to outline their Complaints Procedure, which includes the possibility of taking anything unresolved to the Financial Ombudsman, but only if it is "eligible".
I'd be very interested to know if anyone else has had experience of the AA Complaints Procedure.0 -

Okay! That's the way!
P.S. By the way, don't forget to cancel your contracts with your car insurance company, and house insurance. In fact it won't matter, because you'll be moving your savings account too, and in the process of that you'll probably take your current account with you so the continuous payment authority for your insurances won't trigger anyway.
I would say ask them to remove your phone number from their database so they don't plague you with calls when the auto-renew doesn't work, but that won't matter either because of course your home phone number will change when you move company because they've charged you more than a new customer too. Oh, and your mobile too.
It's okay though, because in all that extra time you have you'll be able to catch up on your TV programmes. Oh, hang on, no you won't, because Sky (or Virgin, Telewest, or whoever it is you're with) will have jacked their rates too, so you won't have that any more will you?
Better factor in some more time to set up payments for the new providers you pick for all the above, because you're going to have to find new credit card providers to pay for them all too, as they've just got on your 'don't deal with this company' list by bumping up their rates for you as an existing customer.
In fact scrub all the above, because I forgot to account for you not seeing my post as your ISP will have changed too. Not that having net access will matter, of course, since nothing's going to work anyway, what with having no electricity supply to your house since you discovered they shafted you too. By the way, bloody nippy this morning isn't it? Bet you wish you hadn't told the gas company to naff off, eh?
There's a phrase, horrible little thing - its called 'customer inertia'. EVERY company you deal with day to day are aware of it, and they use it to their best advantage.0 -
I never pay the asking price. I got a cheap deal with the AA a few years ago and the "Wings and wheels" show, so each year I call then, ask why the policy has gone up so much and they offer me a discount.0
