Cost of AA renewal !! - long standing member

I also had a quote, having been a member for a couple of years. Renewal was for £103 for Roadside and Relay, however I've only ever paid around £50 and no more.
Basically AA are just pushing their luck. If you don't respond, they just charge your account for the full renewal price! However, on the threat of leaving they dropped it immediately to £50. Worth a phone call....I wonder how many people don't question and pay the full renewal??
Having not had any problems with their service on the whole, I'm happy to go with £50 for the year. I was considering Autoaid, but for the extra £13 py, I don't have to worry about claiming it back.0 -
Joined the AA last year on a web special price of £89.99 (roadside and relay).
The renewal came through today and the cost this year is £152.04
Phoned the AA and they said this is the standard renewal but would drop the price to £99 for this year.
So, as a loyal customer you pay a higher price. I always thought !!!!!! Turpin was a roadside highwayman, not a roadside repair man !
If you get an AA renewal quote, phone them up and tell them you want to leave and rejoin to get the best price. Amazingly they will let you stay on your existing membership, but at the lower discounted price. For me, that has saved £55. I suggest we all do the same.0 -
I've been with Rescuemycar.com for a few years now
£42/44 pa (can't remember offhand!)
Homestart
Relay
Rescue
Onward travel - hire car or train fare.
No excess or need to reclaim costs.
They've been great with me, anytime I've used them they've been very quick, pretty efficient. They use local garages or recovery firms not their own staff.
I'd never pay AA or RAC prices now.0 -
I've been with the RAC for many years. My renewal came through with a big increase in price. I rang them, and going through the menu pressed the button, 'if you are thinking of leaving us'. I asked why it had gone up. The man said, oh you have been with us a long time, I'll give you the same cover as last year, for the same price.
Ring up every time, if you don't ask you don't get.

Cancel the Auto renew and join again on line the very next day and you will get the new members discount.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Its not just AA/RAC/Greenflag.
Oh and Home Insurance .
And phones, home and mobile.
And car insurance to a lesser extent.
And Gas/electricity although you do have to switch for that.
It is getting to the point of being tiresome, (which is what they want I expect) and a complete pain in the ****.
It must add to our costs and gains all of them absolutely nothing in the round.
Why doesn't anybody just do a fair price anymore.
Oh another Dyson offering cash back in the shops for part ex when web sales just charge you the net price aargh."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Don't like the way any of these companies operate. Like others on here I was an AA long time member. I was quoted around £161 for Roadside, Home Start and Relay. Each was itemised individually. When I phoned to drop Relay they still wanted to charge around £131 rather than the total cost as itemised for the remaining two services, which was around £112. The agent couldn't alter this but could arrange for someone to call back, who could. I refused. My main gripe is that I was being sold a package in effect and not three separate services, as the itemised statement had suggested. After looking at other providers it is apparent others do packages like this, but more explicitly. The RAC, only charging around half the price for the equivalent two services I wanted. The catch? If continuous direct debit was not required they wanted to charge £20 extra for "administartion costs". What admin is this for precisely? Whichever way I pay they have to inform me before re-newing. In reality it is inertia selling, plain and simple. They hope you just carry on paying without question or moving to another provider. Oh yes! I also had to ring the RAC to discover how to opt out of continuous direct debiting. Nowhere could I find out how to do it on their website, enrolling online. Needless to say that I didn't take up their service either.0

I have joint cover (me and my partner) have Roadside, Home Start and Relay (get you home after a breakdown they cant fix) the total cost is £133 does this represent a keen rate - What do you pay ??
I threatened to leave and go to Green Flag who offered all the above for £87 so the AA matched it. They always try it on with renewals hoping people dont check their forms.Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.0 -

Yeah, forget the concept of loyalty bonus. They see customers as being complete idiots and try to squeeze you dry.... Just like the insurance companies with their auto renewals “I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
