hi, I've booked a late deal to Zante and I've never been there before and would like to ask a couple of questions. TIA:D

I'm staying in tsilivi and was wondering how far/easy it is to get to Zante town from here. Is public transport any good on the island?

Also, if any of you have stayed in tsilivi can you recommend a good, inexspensive traditional Greek restaurant?

Last question:) :can you take a day trip by boat to kefalonia from Zante?

Many thanks in advance:D

Although its been a number of years since we went to Zante we stayed in Tsilivi.
Buses are very good and we travelled to Zante Town and Laganas by bus as I refuse to drive on holiday as I like a rest from it.
From memory neither are that far by bus and regular to Zante Town but get a bit crowded on market day. Some apalling sights on that market with vast over crowding of parrotts in cages, very little water on scorching days and dirty cages.
Buses are very cheap and easy to use.
I cant answer about cruises as we didnt do any.
Just a couple of things.....mosquitos were rampant so take loads of repellant/electic devices and the airport is very small and any delays can cause major issues as planes are resticted and cant land between 22:00-06:00 in certain times of the year due to turtle breeding!!! We had an 11 hour delay coming home.
Have a great time...loads of good restaurants in Tsilivi just look for the busy ones!
  • Think you've picked the best part of Zante. I've been twice, 2000 and 2004.

In 2000 it was nice and quieter and more Greek, 2004 i was shocked! We went to Argassi/Lagana and it had turned into Blackpool, far too British and far too many kids getting drunk etc etc

I still like the island and if you stay away from 18-30 traps you'll have a lovely time.

Zante town is nice and you can get a bus there, we hired a car.

Do visit Tripadvisor Zante forum, there's a wealth of info you can search for and the Destination Expert for Zante, Kev, who lives there, is really proactive, welcoming and helpful.

    Have a great hol!
  • i nearly sent a car over the edge of that cliff..still brings me out in a cold sweat now:eek:
oh told me he had left the keys in engine and to get them out...me being clueless turned the engine jolting it forward and he had left handbreak off...think he was trying to kill me to be honest:eek:

i like vasilikos as nice and green and quiet and if you are lucky you can get to see the turtles lay eggs
laganas however has best beaches as it shelves out in the middle so has like a high sand island..brilliant for little children:rolleyes:

Hi, I've been to Tsilivi 3 times in the last 6 years and love it. My favourite places to eat is Manos Grill and Fiorentina and during the day we normally use the sunbeds at Freddies Beach Bar.
I've always got my Zante info from a website called justzante

Have fun, I'm very jealous!!! if you can do the boat trip with Spiros (Levante speedboats). enjoy!
  • easy to go to kefelonia too on ferry for day trip if you fancy it:confused:

    we've been to Tsilivi 3 times (1996, 2001 & 2008).
Yes, it HAS got busier but we didn't think it was too spoiled. We like traditional Greek food so just gave the places advertising English Sunday lunch or Bangers and mash a miss.

On this link you'll find some restaurant reviews:

Although I agree with rugbybabe77 about Fiorentina, unfortunately the owners are no longer running this place for 2009. In fact I think the space has been taken over by the place next door. It's a pity as the food was excellent.

We really enjoyed Menir which is at the Planos end, just down from the Hotel Contessina.

You might find this map useful too:

Although Zante Town is not one of the nicest Greek island capitals we've been to, it's nice to have a walk along the front and maybe have a meal in one of the tavernas. The church is impressive too.
They've built a new bus terminal outside of Zante Town and when you get there it looks like you've been dumped in the middle of nowhere but just cross the road and head downhill.

We caught the bus into Town then into Laganas - we were on the next bus out. Far, far too 18-30 for us. Lots of bars (closed) being swept out, pizza places galore.

    Hope you enjoy Zante.
