Freecycle- people asking for too much?

Has anyone else found that people on Freecycle seem to be asking for way too much? I just saw someone post asking for a Nintendo DS for their son, yesterday there was people asking for TVs, Apple Mac laptops and other things like that. Is it just me or is that too much?! I think it's so nice when people offer things like working TVs, but to go around asking if anyone doesn't want their Mac, IMO is quite rude/ridiculous.
What do you guys think?

Whoops i accidently thanked you,
yes i do agree with you on the issue that people are asking for too much, ive not noticed it recently on my local board but have done in the past, i can understand asking for a tv if the wanted was for an old crt tv but if it were for an lcd tv then no 1 will give 1 of them away for free and the same for a mac and a laptop0 -
I posted for a Hot Tub, but no ones offered yet;)0

i don't think requests should be allowed, imho. but i know it's a very hotly debated point within freecycle groups lol!Kavanne

We've had two requests for conservatories in the last week. Always get loads of requests for laptops, DSes, flat monitors, big TVs and other expensive stuff.
Requests are limited to 2 per month, but I noticed the other week that two separate members had asked for high-value items (laptop/washing machine/leather suite/fridge freezer, if I recall), and their spelling and grammar were identical. I wonder if they will both post requests again this month?
Another thing that bugs me is when I post offers, there are a couple of members who ALWAYS want whatever I'm offering.
I offered a huge list of stuff - all different types of things - and one guy replied, saying "I'll take the lot". No please, thank you or kiss my bum.
I offered 7 binbags of women's clothing and had almost 60 responses, so I replied to about a dozen and told them to come and have a dig through. One person replied, telling me she didn't want to bother if she was only going to get 2 or 3 bags of stuff!
And finally (I really should cancel my membership, because I get very riled!!) - someone asked for a specific model of Honda scooter recently, for her son to go to college on - must be taxed and tested!!!
And, breathe........0 -
I wouldn't mind if they even THANKED you !!!!!!!
I have recently given a 2 drawer filing cabinet to a preschool group
a 6 drawer chest of drawers and matching bedside table
and yesterday a beech dining table and 3 cream upholstered matching chairs
all to separate people
any of them post or e mail a thank you to me?
NOPE !!!!!!!!!!!
good manners are a thing of the past it seems0 -
I have noticed that - on my local freecycle people have started asking for cars that are taxed and MOT'd (as if someone is going to give them a car:rolleyes:).
I have gotten rid of a few things: packets of prawn cocktail crisps (out of multibags), empty dowe egbert coffee jars and jamjars, small slowcooker, small vacuum cleaner (a Tesco Value one).
I have received: 1 large crate containing twinlock crystal files, a box of christmas decorations.
I have also noticed with my local one the number of people who are asking for payment but the moderators ban these people. Also the amount of broken stuff that is being offered - if it is broken beyond repair wouldnt the tip be a better place to dispose of it?:rolleyes:0 -

I agree with you guys, some people don't have the decency to say thank you for items. You are getting the stuff for free so the least you can do is fire a quick email telling them how much you appreciate that they gave the item to you. I have had some really nice emails back but on the other hand other people haven't bothered.
I found freecycle great for getting toys for my DS, which I hope to pass onto others when we are finished with them. I did have to draw the line when putting stuff up for offer, it was getting to the point where people wanted the stuff but weren't prepared to come and get it so I'd offer to deliver but sometimes they would live a fair distance away and frankly I felt they were taking the mick. I now only offer pick up.0 -
i search for people on facebook when they want something off me
I found one guy's and he'd just started working for a bank in my town and only just moved here, so I knew it was a genuine ask, so i gave it him!
