    Input telephone number in google will give you idea of who is calling
  • One of the best purchases that I ever made was a BT call guardian phone. I have custom set it to block all unknown, withheld and international numbers. Everyone else is pre-screened and has to give their details before they get through unless they are on my allowed list. It is a godsend.

    Call Saint is also good, though it struggles with Greenpeace who seem to use a different number every time they call.
  • I saw an ad on TV for a word search competition and £7k in a prize for guessing the right answer. The number was an 0800 number, so I thought as it is a free phone number, I had nothing to lose. To be on the safe side and to stop them selling my phone number on to some telemarketing company to spam the living daylights out of me, I added 141 (to withhold my number) before entering the 0800 number. Worked a charm. Shortly after giving the correct answer, I received the following letter (I have redacted my personal details for privacy);

    churchcastle_scam_competition_30.01.16_2_zpsteebccmb.png

    After doing some research in to the company that appears to be running this "competition", I discovered that it was being run by "Churchcastle" and an individual named "Neil Frogley" who as I understand it from my research had one of his companies fined £800k for misleading people in his "competitions".

    It appears that this "Neil Frogley" is at it again and has not followed the ASA's or the High Courts order to "clean up his act" and continues to defraud hundreds of people with his totally fake and fraudulent competitions that rake in the money on massively expensive premium rate phone lines. I myself don't call them and actually have them barred on my phone lines for that very same reason. I had no intention of calling them on it, and when I discovered thier intentions, I called the 0800 number on the letter above to have them remove me from thier spam list and never contact me again. If they do, I will report them to the police, the ASA and Trading Standards for fraud and deception as well as failing to comply with a High Court order. I am safe for the moment, and because I withheld my phone number, that was my saving grace and don't get any calls from them.

    Has anyone else had letters similar to this urging you to call a premium rate phone line?

    I honestly believe that they should be banned as they are used by companies like this to hammer you for every penny.

    £3.60 a min, possible call cost £7.20 plus network charges:eek:
  • I know, its outrageous. As I said in my post above, this is the reason I have barred premium rate phone numbers. The last thing I need is a HUGE phone bill.

    I have received this message on my mobile phone and also by email from roombookers.eu
    I did enter a competition with them but didn't notice any runners-up prizes.
    I am concerned about the costs of the 01909 268350 call which I believe is a Worksop number but may be a Virtel number or something similar that is a host for another number further away.
    Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing please?

    Lots of their competitions have 10 runner up prizes although they don't seem to say what they are (someone was thanking them on FB yesterday for getting a runner-up email, no mention of what the prize was though)

    Looking at some of their T&C's they seem a bit "timeshare" otherwise why should income matter?
    The competition is open to married couples or cohabiting as man and wife for a minimum period of 2 years between the ages of 30-70 years who are gainfully employed (either or both) or retired with a private pension
