silly question for you
tescos are now charging uk prices or very close to ....so food their is 25% cheeper:T:T:T:T
but i go to the posh shop and buy my meat from the store waste shelve where...
mince 350gms €4.50 so get it for 2.48
got 2 of those and lamb steaks totalling €8.50..
tesco meat is a little not as nice,,,, mince would sell for €3.70
but,,,they now do 3 meat packs for €9
so im saving 1€ their,, €2 a wk... but feeding the family very short dated meat ,,,which obviously can be frozen,,,and saving around €80 a year
is it worth it ??? is it savvie shopping or MSE gone one step to far:o:o:o
is fresher meat better nutrition wise??
bearing in mind the meat i got today is use by 31st julyWAS DEBT FREE & STILL BAAARRRRRKING

That's an interesting question Shaun, i know frozen veg are sorted out to have maximum nutritional benefits ( just depends on the freezing process)
I would argue that if you trust the source of your meat, and you have a good relationship with Butcher/shop then fresh is probably better.
There are lots of debates though about packaged meat labels and sell by dates and how long they have been on shelves. So i would personally be dictated by knowledge of butcher and meat, or if you have a good farm shop then there.
You may want to put the question on Food and shopping or Oldstyle board..Rog2 is very good on this kind of ethical/nutritional debate.
Fascinating isn't it?Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

id say every little helps but i am bias;)
id also say it doesnt really matter how mince starts out but what you do with it, i always quickly brown off, strain, then slowly simmer for a couple hours, even the fattiest becomes tender HTmyeverylittleH:)I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -

Know what you mean bubbles, it is a really good question and at the end of the day budget will dictate.I always go for the best i can afford and make it stretch.
Talking of which there is a new prog on tv about gastro cooking on a budget. Bet they can't beat Weezle.:rotfl:Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Blimey you lot!
Wasps....are they sorted? ( If nest not in a particularly flammable place (ie dangling somewhere) wait until cool, introduce lighter gas and woooof! bye bye Mr Wasp. Not good if in a house cavity though.
Bubbles.....if wasp sting hurts, put vinegar on......wasp venom is ALKALI so acid will neutralise.
Shaun.....good luck with getting a new lodger.
Bob, I will now put the biggest knobbliest turnip back in its box as you are being sensible again re loans.
I haven't read everything in the last 24 hours so if I sound confused
Sadie had the full works! Vacc jab ( squeak!) temp probe up the bum ( wide eyed, 'what the ****!' squeak) worming stuff down the gullet with a squirty thing and ear ointment squirted in and squelched around...she looked shell-shocked and wouldnt settle all evening but has gone to MILs with Mrs P and behaved great in the car.....phew!:D stay wonky
:D
....one-way ticket to Portugal booked !0 -

Ah, well there, i prefer to buy lean cuts of meat and mince my own...less waste and more for your money. Plus if i buy mince, i make it go further if it is leaner as you are not paying for the fat therefore get more for your money. Oldstyle have a whole thread on this and beleive me those folks can stretch mince beef so far you would not need to buy any for a month.:rotfl:
Just my opinion, i love making things go further.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
